What are the top five skills to develop for a promotion in Computer Engineering?
I would say, nowadays and especially moving forward, all computer engineers are going to need a somewhat in depth knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence. This is because tools like GPT-4, Bard and Claude are increasingly being used in all aspects of the computer engineering workflow. From brainstorming ideas, to writing and debugging code, to producing documentation, the accuracy of these AI tools is increasing fast. Those computer engineers without a solid understanding of this new technology will be left behind.

The "Public Dialogue on Quantum Computing" report by the Quantum Computing and Simulation Hub offers an insightful glimpse into how the UK public views this emerging technology. It’s encouraging to see many of the findings align with the goals of the XPRIZE #QuantumApplications competition. Some key points from the report: 👉 Public optimism about quantum’s role in healthcare and climate change, areas. 👉 A clear call for regulation and greater public involvement, ensuring the benefits of quantum are widely shared. 👉 While awareness is growing, there are still significant knowledge gaps. In my opinion, there's a lot to stem from these findings, and the #quantumcomputing ecosystem will need to continue collaborating across industry, academia, government, and the public to address concerns and educate, while being honest about where current quantum technology stands and what will need to be done to reach its full potential. This report is a timely resource as we continue to shape #quantumcomputing's future. Worth a read for anyone interested in where public opinion stands. Check out the report here:

🌟 **Great News from the Computational Intelligence Laboratory!** 🌟 Our latest work, "Incremental Learning and Granular Computing from Evolving Data Streams: An Application to Speech-Based Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis" has just been published in Fuzzy Sets and Systems! 🎉 We investigate the innovative application of the evolving Optimal Granular System (eOGS). This new framework leverages speech data streams to enhance the diagnosis of bipolar mood disorder (BD), addressing the dual challenges of accuracy and interpretability in AI for healthcare. This research has achieved promising results through collaboration with Gabriella Casalino and Giovanna Castellano from the Università degli Studi di Bari, Daniel F. Leite from Paderborn University, and Katarzyna Kaczmarek-Majer from IBS PAN - Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences. Vanio Markov and Vladimir R. will present at the Quantum Matter conference in Workshop 02 this week. Talk title: "Quantum Time Series Similarity Measures and Quantum Temporal Kernels". "In all structural and predictive task scenarios, the quantum kernels exhibited superior performance compared to their classical counterparts. " The team released a paper lat month on the subject: https://lnkd.in/gwdiWHvu. I didn't realize there is a workshop dedicated to Quantum Simulation Technologies too. Another great paper to highlight: Multiplexed quantum memory using cold atoms for quantum networking: https://lnkd.in/eWY6_gqJ We all know the importance of multiplexing both for high rate quantum networking and distributed quantum computing. Many platforms, especially the solid state ones, come in the play with the promise of large scale multiplexing but barely I see papers that actually do it. This recent paper on PRX is an experimental demonstration of a 144x multiplexed memory using Magneto Optically Trapped atoms and the setup is done so great to allow for a fully on demand quantum register operation. Of course the use of atoms have made this more feasible due to the natural indistinguishability they offer. They even go a step further to show the application of such register for entanglement synchronization. A real advantage of using Rb atoms is the possibility of transferring this scheme to a fully room temperature quantum memory. You might think room temperature memories are still far behind when it gets to entanglement storage but hopefully in a few weeks I can change your mind! For now though I hope you enjoy this beautiful work of science and engineering.

For all large language models (LLM) can do, it's important to recognise what they can't. This research paper addresses a critical question: How reliable is LLM's knowledge? The authors, including the Head of Aveni Labs, Dr. Alexandra Birch, and Dr. Barry Haddow, our Head of Natural Language Processing, introduce a novel metric called MOdel kNowledge relIabiliTy scORe (MONITOR) to assess LLM's factual reliability. MONITOR works by asking models the same question in different ways and seeing how likely the model is to give the same answer each time. This innovative approach helps identify situations where an LLM might be making things up rather than providing facts. Google's quantum leap in computing power! Google's latest Sycamore quantum processor boasts 70 qubits, a significant jump from the 53 qubits of its 2019 version. This translates to a staggering 241 million times greater processing power! #exponentialgrowth #quantumrevolution Google's Sycamore quantum processor achieved a milestone in demonstrating quantum supremacy. In a specific task, Sycamore completed a calculation in 200 seconds that would take a classical computer 10,000 years. While there's still debate on the exact timeframe, this achievement showcases the immense potential of quantum computers. Google is actively involved in finding real-world applications for quantum computing. They recently launched a $5 million XPRIZE Quantum Applications competition to incentivize the development of practical quantum algorithms. Any ideas? Essentially, they still have no idea what to do with a computer this powerful. Although, I shudder to think what would happen if the NVIDIA Blackwell Superchip bumped into a computer this powerful. The AI singularity could be closer than we think.
