The Kia Tasman was revealed yesterday. It is boxier and a bit underwhelming compared to renders, and pricing hasn’t been confirmed. While it probably won’t really compete for the true off-roader, perhaps that’s not the market they are going for? If pricing was competitive vs others, perhaps the aim is the commercial market? As a tradie, will you care about the power or torque if the price is right, comfort is high, and you have a 7 year unlimited km warranty?

Tell me if this is how things happen in your Marketing Dept... You get a shiny new logo and brand, and a fabulous website too – and launch it to the world. Phew, that took some work! All the marketing content looks great, but starts to slip after a few weeks and months. 'Cmon, you know it does. Then other people "design" and post content that is a little off brand, and maybe not quite as professional as it should be. Damn you Canva .com The Sales team by-passes Marketing and creates their own deck – which sucks – but you let it go 'cause 'eff them, it's their show. Then you get into this "acceptance" that substandard and mediocre content (poorly designed and poorly written content) is the new norm. Meh is now good enough. Have you given up? But then you stand back and realize after a time, you have a real cluster @$#% of a brand assets on your hands. And it no longer represents the brand. Where did it fall down? _____ We've seen this scenario play out in several SME's and enterprise companies, but can help you fix this. Here’s the thing about PR — sometimes a win feels like a loss and sometimes a miss is actually a win.  LOTS of chatter on the web over the last week about Jaguar. First about the new ad (that doesn’t feature a car) and the rebrand, then about the new concept car. Jaguar’s rollout of its new “Type 00” concept car is a perfect case study. They’re calling it “Exuberant Modernism,” and it appears to have ruffled a LOT of feathers in car-media land.  Let’s talk about the rebrand: - A campaign that didn’t feature a single car - A design philosophy that feels more art gallery than automotive heritage - Messaging that seems aimed at an artistic audience that may not even care about cars Jaguar built its reputation on beauty, performance, and a distinctively British identity (Grace, Pace and Space). The Type 00 concept has retained that DNA— the Miami Pink and London Blue are interesting — but it’s the branding and art direction that appear to have hit a nerve. My take - the cost of the initial ad and the concept car are a drop in the bucket compared to the tidal wave of earned media the brand has received over the past week. In fact, Porsche dropped a production ready and totally new take on its very popular Macan (now on an EV platform) and despite positive reviews it has been displaced in the news cycle by a Jag concept car.  A generation of 30 something creative types who didn’t even know the models in the Jag lineup a month ago are now paying attention.  Pink paint notwithstanding, that feels like a win.   https://lnkd.in/gXNWMUdN

With the furore over the Jaguar new identity, I wanted to contextualise other car identities. Jaguar is a brand that holds a lot of goodwill certainly countrywide and worldwide. Gerry McGovern is undoubtedly a great designer, having created the recent Land Rover Defender and Range Rover and I think the new Jaguar will be great. But, the marketing is in question, the visual language is in question. We know that Jaguar are planning to go completely electric and to double the price point. Nobody has a problem with that. But taken that heritage equity and brand goodwill and binning it does not seem right. So how might you look at it? Here is how brands die a slow death. I’m facing a problem with BMW, (Motorrad) the reverse assist on the GTL fails repeatedly and the customer service is a joke. Global forums are full of this issue and dealers across US and Europe seem to mostly help support replacement. Emails etc are not helping. India BMW thinks we are in the Stone Age and they can create their own rules. It will help to note with - the bike’s engine failed and was replaced under warranty within months of purchase Here is what happened so far - At 20,600 km: Reverse gear was replaced under warranty after the first malfunction. - Regular Services: Multiple services were performed, but no recall notices were given despite known issues with the reverse gear. - At 46,000 km: Reverse gear malfunctioned again. BMW now refuses to replace it for free, despite the previous replacement, claiming it’s due to "external factors." BMW's List of Excuses: - Age of the Vehicle: They claim the bike’s age contributes to the problem. Yes my bike is 6+ years old, - Riding Profile/Usage: They suggest that how the bike is used is causing the issue. Apparently it’s not to be ridden but showcased only - Maintenance: They imply that the issue could stem from inadequate maintenance. It’s only ever maintained at the authorized service center and I have never received any escalation - Storage Conditions: BMW even suggests that where and how the bike is stored might be to blame. I will now have to find a freezer large enough to house it as per German temperature standards BMW is avoiding responsibility, shifting the blame onto the rider with various excuses rather than addressing what seems to be a recurring engineering / manufacturing flaw.
