Ciara Chapman got some very interesting results to a recent survey - see below: "What is the biggest challenge you face during your recruitment process? The author can see how you vote. Learn more What is the biggest challenge you face during your recruitment process?" Difficult Location - 10% Competitive Salaries - 10% Lack of experienced candidates - 80% Other (please comment) - 0% Our sales division has made more placements in the first half of 2024 than any other first half in our company's history. If you are recruiting talk to us we are here to help but the following is worth considering prior to a conversation: 1) What are the "must haves" and not an unrealistic "Euro Millions list of attributes". 2) How will you attract them - why do you work there? What growth plans does your company have? How are you different to the competition (What is your USPs as a business?) How are you innovating with new products or applications for existing ones? How do you back your sales people? How effective is your marketing (exhibitions, conferences, sponsorship, professional memberships, marketing collateral)? What is your culture / What is it like to work for you? 3) Is your basic salary competitive (people need to pay bills - commissions and bonuses are what drive sales people and make them strive to be number one but don't expect successful sales people to join you on less. 4) Is your car policy flexible and attractive. Companies offering hybrids as the norm and electric cars if practical or realistic Car Allowances (preferably a choice of either) find it easier to attract people. 5) It's a very competitive market with most applicants having multiple choices in where they go - delay in making decisions and you WILL loose people. Telling that only 10% said Difficult Location. My experience says that if you have an exacting and tight person specification and you then add in a location with little flexibility, you are likely to fail. We will also become your "ambassadors" selling your role truthfully and with conviction to both new and existing candidates. Polling Results - What must firms change to compete for talent in a candidate short market? As expected the number one result for this poll came in as salary, as the candidate shortage in public practice accounting worsens, most of the feedback I receive from candidates is in relation to firms refusing to increase their salary bandings as this would result in a business wide remuneration restructure. However, as more firms begin to embrace this, the rest of the market will have to follow. I was very intrigued to see that the second most popular answer was candidates looking to receive a bonus structure, I currently work with several clients who have embraced this measure and seen great results. (The most common structure I see is based upon EOFY billings in which candidates receive a set percentage depending on their target and generation of new business). Thank you to all who voted!
