Today, SONI - System Operator for Northern Ireland has published our Winter Outlook 2024/25. This annual publication sets out our assessment of the balance between anticipated consumer demand for electricity and expected generation for the Winter period. Our assessment for Winter 2024/25 shows that we expect to have enough generation to meet demand in normal operating conditions, and assuming our portfolio of conventional generation remains available. In this context, the likelihood of any disruption to consumers because of insufficient generation is small. We have experienced some challenges in recent months with unexpected forced outages, and these challenges may remain in the lead up to the Winter period. However, we have the plans in the place to minimise the risk of any disruption. Operating any power system is inherently challenging and involves balancing a wide range of variable factors. As Northern Ireland's power system, rightly and importantly, transitions to cleaner, but more variable and intermittent sources of electricity, this balance becomes more complex. In the future, technology such as Long Duration Energy Storage, at sufficient scale, will help address some of these interim, transitional challenges. 📢 📢 So pleased to see some great commitments in the election manifestos to support SMEs, most notably tackling late payments, support for digital invoicing and the role of open finance to help SMEs access credit. Sage has been advocating for these types of initiatives for some time, as set out in our Blueprint for Digital-led Growth, where we made the case for digitalisation as a key lever to address late payments and improve cash flow. 📈 👉 For the UK to thrive in the twenty-first century, every business in every part of the country needs to be empowered to make the most of technology. We’d like to see the next Government put in place a clear digital adoption plan with the right incentives and regulations, like e-invoicing to help small and mid-sized businesses adopt digital tools and reap the benefits of AI. Drawing on my NYC emergency response days in the Mayor's office, I wrote about the role of debriefing and learning from previous experiences to inform the next one. Some may know it as the "after-action report." I provide a few recommended tips to build your readiness and infrastructure as we head into increasingly turbulent times. But hands down the biggest step any CCO or CMO can take is to build a collaborative culture across teams so that you don't fall victim to unforced errors.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has taken a step towards making universal credit #UC #data available in real time to #localgov and other organisations to support groups of #vulnerable people - it has agreed a 2yr, £2m contract with Capgemini to work on the #discovery and #alpha stages of a project to develop #APIs and other means of extracting relevant data. This derives from a DWP commitment three years ago that it would make data available to councils so they could identify cohorts of vulnerability and make more targeted interventions to support people. It is considering the possibility of a standalone solution for local authorities, but it also in discussions with iStandUK, the local government standards body that runs the #SAVVI (Scalable Approach to Vulnerability via Interoperability) programme. SAVVI is aiming for a nationally accepted #standard for information governance, which includes data sharing agreements, and interoperable technical standards for the creation of a data mesh. https://lnkd.in/e2juBs6N

We've seen a huge volume of change across the financial services sector in recent years, and the importance of clear, strategic communications cannot be overstated. Yet one thing that has not been widely adopted across the sector is the communications function having a seat at the boardroom table. For me, this seems like an oversight and a missed opportunity for those organisations looking to scale in the current economic climate. Scroll through my reasons below, but the bottom line is that incorporating communications into the boardroom brings a strategic perspective that aligns all aspects of the business towards common goals which will help build growth and resilience. The DBT have released their impact assessment for their Non-Financial Reporting Review, supported by responses to a call for evidence which was published last month. The review comes as a direct response to reporting requirements increasing the size and complexity of annual reports. It will refresh and rationalise current requirements and ensure they deliver decision-useful information to the market. Measures being considered under the preferred option include: 🔘 Removing several requirements from the Directors' and Remuneration reports. 🔘 Increase the size limits outlined in the Companies Act 2006 by 50% for which certain reporting requirements apply. 🔘 Remove the presumption in the Act that the duty to share annual reports is via physical copies. 🔘 Make technical corrections to the audit regulatory framework on audit committees. While each requirement is meant to increase transparency and accountability of companies to stakeholders, these changes reflect a more contemporary reporting framework that considers aspects such as historical and future inflation. Removing the presumption of physical copies for the AR stands out as a big step forward towards digital-first reporting, which, in turn, should encourage more innovative and effective methods for companies to disclose information.
