Just wanted to come on this morning and talk about downloads for your business podcast. Over the weekend, I saw a business podcast that was claiming that they had had 98,000 downloads in the first 12 hours of publication. They were a niche business podcast that was B2B, rather than B2C. I'll be honest, I'm a little skeptical about that figure - but I know that downloads are something that many podcasters think about. Couple of things that I wanted to mention: - Nobody has access to your download figures but you. Sites like Podchaser can have an educated guess, but the official figures are only on your hosting site. - If you get 120 downloads on your podcast in the first 7 days after publication, that puts you in the top 25% of all podcasts in the world. Stop thinking that you need tens of thousands of downloads to be 'successful' - Downloads should just be one of the many standards that you use to judge success with your business podcast. You could also use Likes & Comments on your social posts about the podcast, clicks through to your website from either social posts or show notes, the quality of guests that you've had on your podcast. If you're starting a business podcast just because you want hundreds of thousands of downloads - maybe have a rethink, because that shouldn't be what it's all about.
