ACQUISITION NEWS: AFC Industries has acquired Birmingham UK based distributor Forward Industrial Products (Forward Industrial Products Group) through its TFC Business Unit. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Forward Industrial Products Group Ltd is an industry leading supplier of C Class components, vendor managed inventory services and MRO services, with a focus on enhancing the productivity and effectiveness of its customers’ manufacturing operations. Forward provides a range of value-added services as well as both standard and custom items and engineered products. Birmingham-based Bracebridge Corporate Finance was the sole advisor to Forward for the transaction. We’re really pleased to be part of AFC and the growing TFC group. The partnership is a perfect fit for Forward Industrial," said Martyn Cleaver, Managing Director of Forward. Is the supply of tooling equipment a separate supply from the end product? This question is particularly relevant when the end product is supplied cross-border at a 0% VAT rate, while the tooling equipment is supplied locally at a local VAT rate, as production takes place locally. Can the tooling equipment share in the 0% VAT rate for cross-border supplies, or can local VAT on tooling equipment be recovered? I’ve had multiple client conversations on this topic over the years, and divergent views exist across EU Member States. This very question will now be addressed by the CJEU, as published in the EU’s Official Journal earlier this week (see below). This case is very relevant for sectors that heavily rely on tooling equipment for manufacturing, including automotive, aerospace, and tech. #vat

UK Manufacturing Sector Contracts at Fastest Rate Since 2020 in July!!! The UK’s manufacturing sector experienced its steepest decline in three years in July, marking the twelfth consecutive month of contraction, according to a new influential survey. The S&P Global/CIPS UK Manufacturing PMI survey recorded a reading of 45.3 in July, down from 46.5 in June. This is the joint-worst performance since May 2020, signaling a rapid contraction in the sector. The decline was slightly less severe than analysts had anticipated, who had forecasted a PMI score of 45.0. However, the survey highlighted significant challenges, particularly a sharp drop in exports, which fell at one of the fastest rates in three years due to weak global demand.
