Great information by L&C, publishing the SVR in the market. The SVR is set by the lender as they please, and as can be observed, some lenders increased the SVR while base rates went down. Levelling Up Excellent “Big Read” in today’s FT which captures the challenges of trying to deliver investment through top down overly complex bidding processes. Also links to the need for fundamental review of local government finance and funding. Delivering growth and investment going forward will require simplification, devolution and longer term thinking.

The Budget - a reminder ahead of Wednesday… UK based private equity and venture capital firms have £178 billion of funds to invest which they expect to deploy in the next three to five years. So, the BVCA is calling on the Government to present measures at Wednesday’s Budget which will support the industry's ability to invest this capital in the UK, driving the #economicgrowth our country desperately needs. Ahead of this year's #UKBudget, the BVCA alsocalls for measures including: ⭐️ A stable and competitive #tax framework for growth, to ensure the UK remains an attractive and internationally competitive place for private capital firms to locate and invest. ☀️ Investing #pensions to harness productive UK assets and bolster returns for pensions savers, with policies that help UK pension schemes access longer-term investments in private capital, which can then be invested into UK businesses, boosting economic growth. 🚀 Promoting #innovation and scale-up opportunities for growth. The UK should be the best place to both start and scale a business. That means protecting our world class universities, having investor support for spin-outs and encouraging a greater appetite for risk taking at later stages to ensure companies can scale in the UK. Driven by concerns over potential future UK tax changes, plenty of conversations are happening about whether now is a good time to sell a business However, as I note in my blog, it's not all about tax and there are many other factors that will drive exit value.

What a cracking video from the team Downtown in Business - so appreciated, and what a fantastic team they all are - so supportive of our business and they have made a real impact on helping us reopen and boost visitors through our doors. 🙏 Whilst we don't talk enough about tough times & the learning we go through during these periods, I'm open to talk about the tough 2022 we encountered here - the perfect storm of a drop in business & increased costs - do truly put Independent #Hospitality Venues often very quickly (aka a few months) in tough cash-flow situations, and given I've experienced this previously & didn't act fast enough, it did take us on a path to make uncomfortable, fast decisions on our future here and we did take the decision to close to the public for an internal contract, very much for the longevity of our business - we had to future-proof our investment, our lease and I don't regret this. We are in business to thrive and survive and sadly in life you have to have the highs and the lows and that's how it goes. We have come out of survival mode fighting, and at a time when the economics at least look a little brighter than they were during & after COVID and we have made some changes - No Dinner Service, Smaller Garden - in short "we learned and we progress" - as all businesses should. We are much more financial sound and we look forward to continuing our journey after a much needed injection to our beautiful property and look forward to continuing here, as we celebrate our 7 years here this month. #TeamHesketh look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Chester Townhouse!
