Friday Reflections! ☕ I often get asked what I spend my time on or what an HR Business Partner does. It’s sometimes challenging to give a concrete answer, so this week, I kept a simple diary of my tasks. Here’s a glimpse into my week: 📧 Sent over 100 emails 📋 Prepared agendas and content for two different leadership development sessions 🔄 Reviewed our 360-feedback process ☕ Had three coffee meetings with external contacts (two in person, one virtual) 🧠 Had a coaching session with my buddy coach (he helped me refocus on my key areas!) 🖥️ Prepared posts for the intranet 🎤 Conducted and participated in interviews, communicated with candidates, and recruiters, and checked references 🗣️ Advised employees on various matters and sparred with colleagues and leaders on different topics 🧩 Consulted with external advisors 💻 Attended a webinar 📝 Gave feedback (both spontaneously and when asked) 🔍 Searched for employee data (contracts, addresses, phone numbers, personality profiles, etc.) 🌐 Spent time on LinkedIn for inspiration 🛂 Applied for and received a visa for India (not a 5-minute job!) ✈️ Searched for flights to India 📚 Completed a company e-learning module 🍵 Spent some time drinking tea in our office kitchen (picture is from there!) – my precious reflection time for casual chats with colleagues or moments alone with my thoughts It wasn’t a super-busy week, as many people are on holiday and weekly meetings were canceled. Yet, the list is still long! Why do I need a sustainable workplace mental health & wellbeing strategy? 5. Business Reputation – Attracting the best employees: Discussing wellbeing, especially mental health, at recruitment stage is nothing new. Deloitte has advocated since 2017 that employers should, as a basic standard, encourage open conversations about it and the support available at both the recruitment stage as well as throughout employment. The same report made a strong case for investing in mental health interventions in the workplace, citing an average return of £5 for every £1 spent. 'Work wellbeing is how jobseekers and employees feel. And how they feel impacts how your company performs.' - LaFawn Davis SVP of ESG, Indeed Access to wellbeing information impacts on recruitment. Seeing work wellbeing data would be most helpful before investing in the application process. The following stats were taken from an “Indeed Work Wellbeing Report”, based on a commissioned survey (n=1,517 UK adults), conducted by Forrester Consulting, 2023 🧠 47% of people searching for a job state that they would like to know about workplace wellbeing data after they find a job, they are interested in. 🧠 97% of people searching for a job would like to know about workplace wellbeing data before they have an interview. 🧠 23% 0f workers are thriving, which is costing society and business therefore 77% are not thriving. This costs companies, as well as the individuals as well. This 23% are less likely to be searching for a job and are likely to stay longer. 🧠 45% of people say their expectations around work wellbeing has risen in the past year, more so for younger generations. 🧠 18% of companies are leading the way by creating cultures of wellbeing, while a majority fall behind 🧠 89% of people report that happiness at work affects their mood at home. 🧠 45% of people report their work wellbeing expectations are higher that they were one year ago.
