20 Days to the next Budget - Great to see clarity finally being achieved for the abolition of the Lifetime Allowance (announced 18 months ago) with two sets of regulations published to fix flaws in the legislation. Tax-free pension lump sums can now be paid with certainty. Here's to hoping that we don't have yet more changes to pensions tax forced through at breakneck speed. Stability is vital in helping everyone save for their retirement.

Really enjoyed speaking at the Vidett Limited Endgame Solutions Conference 2024 on new insurers entering the market and future outlook. Some of the key points we covered in the panel together with Ben Salmons, Gurbani Swanni Leach, Adam Davis and Gary Needham: ⚽️ More insurers should in theory mean more capacity, but … 🥅 Finding that first deal is not always easy - some insurers in the past have tried to crack this market and failed ⚽️ Human resource remains the major constraint, although innovation through tech and gen AI should help 🥅 More new entrants ➡️ more choice ➡️ more decisions ➡️ more complexity, which need to be properly weighed to inform the right approach to market ⚽️ A number of other new entrants are waiting in the wings - so watch 👀 this space 📌 Can’t wait for the 2025 Vidett conference already! #pensionrisktransfer #endgame #pwc (For those of you wondering about the football related emoticons, the conference took place at the National Football Museum in Manchester)

Another fantastic session at Accountex Manchester yesterday with Suzanne Clements (Ad Valorem Group) giving her thoughts on the current R&D tax enquiry regime as an ex-HMRC inspector 🤔 Insights also from Nigel Adams (Ad Valorem Group ), Emma Rawson (The Association of Taxation Technicians) and Glenn Collins (ACCA United Kingdom) on how to navigate the choppy waters if you are facing a compliance check or full enquiry into an R&D claim ♟️ The overriding theme was that the R&D incentives are an important driver for growth in the UK.
