Mapping UK businesses using Crunchbase and The Data City has revealed that there are  four main applications being used to support carbon reduction. In particular, in the AI sector in the energy sector, around 72% of tools for software systems and analytical platforms are required. AI’s ability to process large and complex datasets makes it an essential instrument for informed decision-making and process transformation. AI can track data to report the carbon footprint of operations and supply chain in real time. Carbon emissions can also be visualised to bring data to life and suggest where operations can be improved. In the Labour Party’s June 13 manifesto, the party committed to setting spending plans for the next decade, providing funding to research agencies like UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the UK's primary public science funder. Departing from the usual three-year budgeting cycle, the manifesto aims to foster long-term collaborations with industry to maintain the UK's leadership in global innovation. The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) promptly congratulated Keir Starmer and the Labour Party on their General Election victory. Loving Jamie's article on the North East being a great place for business. Then, I would.... I travelled 325 miles to base Myfolks there. Of course, I wanted to help create wealth in and for the north east (as many know, our great Tyne Bridge is represented in the Myfolks' logo). But, I've been building commercial wraps around tech products for 25 years before I founded Myfolks and I wouldn't have made that emotional choice if it didn't make sound economic and commercial sense. The North East tech scene is navigatable - one of the first places I was pointed to is Sunderland Software City, from there to Paul Lancaster's events (check put Pl_tform) and on to the Innovation Supernetwork and onwards. The Universities, including my beloved Northumbria, Newcastle, Sunderland and Teeside are doing great work in the tech space, both in the north east and beyond and they work together - with industry, with founders and, crucially, with each other. Why wouldn't you want to benefit from the National Innovation Centre for Data in today's data driven world? Where would Myfolks be without the support of the National Innovation Centre for Ageing, their neighbours, located on the Helix in Newcastle and Health Innovation (North east and north Cumbria)? I hurtle about cramming in meetings in a way I couldn't in the south, often on foot, or the metro. You can do more in a day. The business community and the founders' community are so strong, helpful and collaborative. Plus, there's at least 7 Greggs in Newcastle and, did you note the tech Sela introduced recently to enable deaf kids to experience the noise and passion of the match? Makes you proud... If you thought the military was bad in the ‘90’s you havent met the startup/VC world in the 2020's! 💂‍♀️ There is a higher percentage of women in the British Army than there are in VC. 📈 Just FYI - female led startups outperform male in revenue by over 100%. 🤝 Everyone benefits from a better economy and, quite frankly, in these times, each of us needs all the help we can get. 🤑 So imagine the change to the economy (and your pockets) if startup revenue DOUBLED. 🎯 Big shift in UK tech: £1.3bn AI funding cancelled, including Edinburgh's £800m supercomputer project. Interesting to see the new budget pivoting from AI-specific to broader digital investment. While some might see this as stepping back, it could mean a more balanced approach to tech growth - with practical investments like new data centres taking priority. The University of Edinburgh has already put £31m into the supercomputer facilities and still wants to continue.
