Anyone else focusing in on conscious consumption this September? It started with Oxfam alerting the world to the sheer amount of #fastfashion that lands in landfill with their national #secondhandseptember campaign. September marks a seasonal change in the calendar. Wardrobes are turned over from S/S to A/W and fashion weeks across the world make headlines. You could argue that buying nothing is the most conscious thing to do, but then there is the negative impact that that has on the economy - creative economy, retail economy, local manufacturing economy and local economies. If you buy from local brands designed, brands who have purpose written into their business DNA and secondhand retailers which support the fundraising efforts of important charities, then surely the offset is worth it. #secondhandseptember #consciousconsumption #slowfashion

#mediapositive Last week, we couldn't help but notice PepsiCo's latest campaign for their Flamin' Hot range of Doritos, Wotsits and Walkers Max. Launched in line with London Fashion Week, the creative was more reminiscent of high fashion ads (albeit with VERY sweaty models) and with body language to match. The campaign ran across full page insertions in the likes of Stylist and Sunday Times Style, and super high-impact OOH banners in London's fashionable neighbourhoods - Old Street and Shoreditch. Not only does the ad take advantage of a cultural moment to bounce off, but they have created something unexpected. By subverting expectations of a crisp brand's advertising (mass reach & accessible) and doing a category flip into high end fashion brand behaviours (high impact placements & fashion contexts) the campaign has done what most ads fail to do in the first instance - get noticed! Secondly, it's fun, light-hearted, and funny (other brilliant ingredients to get noticed and talked about) - with one activation focussed on a giant "sweating" billboard that pumped 1,000 litres of water over the model's face every few seconds. Massive congratulations to our client Dove who have been cited by British consumers to be the most inclusive of brands. Results from Kantar's inaugural UK Brand Inclusion Index study identified Dove as having the best reputation among consumers for inclusion in its marketing, and recognised Dove as a trailblazer in diversity and inclusion "before it was popular". This is significant because 75% of consumers say that a brands diversity and inclusion reputation influence their purchase decisions. But it's also true to Dove's strong sense of purpose to deliver social impact. UK Consumer Confidence up three points in November Neil Bellamy, Consumer Insights Director, GfK - An NIQ Company, says: “Consumer confidence has improved by three points in November to reach -18. There was evidence of nervousness in recent months as consumers contemplated the potentially worrying impact of the UK Budget at home, and even the implications of the US presidential election. But we have moved past those events now. “The biggest change this month is in major purchase intentions, an important measure that has jumped five points from -21 to -16 in the run-up to Black Friday next week.
