Are you fearing what the impact of the Budget changes to NMW & NI mean for your costs for next year? Don't live in fear! Get an answer asap so you can plan how to cope or mitigate things. Yesterday I used Futrli to forecast the precise impact on an employee by employee basis of the above for a client, and we were then also easy to add in the impact of other wage changes in 2025, which would have taken much longer to do on any other tools. The answer was an increase of 0.8% in total costs for the business, which whilst obviously not welcome, is much less than what was feared and allows the business to start to plan how to cope and mitigate this extra cost. You need accurate data to make decisions and Futrli gives you that. Don't live in fear and moan of impending doom, get the data and get back in control.

Cash and cashflow are the one thing that impacts directly on the success of your business - and of course, you, as the business owner, need to ensure that: 🌸 You can pay your staff 🌸 You can pay your suppliers 🌸 You can pay HMRC 🌸 You can pay yourself! There is always the opportunity to adjust and improve cash flow, especially when you are FORECASTING ahead by 8 or 10 weeks at a time. Rethinking Corporation Tax: Our Strategy for Long-Term Growth In today’s high tax environment, managing corporation tax efficiently is more crucial than ever. Over the last five years, my strategy at Celtic Financial Planning Ltd has been to keep net profits minimal to reduce our corporation tax bill, which may seem counterintuitive to some. Unlike some more established firms that may prioritise immediate profitability for reasons like succession and retirement planning, our younger business sees a distinct advantage in a different approach. We focus on reinvestment—whether it’s in our team through fair pay raises (we have just introduced a profit share for our admin/paraplanning team), supporting further education, giving back to the community, or in the latest technology, both physical and digital. These investments are made with a clear goal: enhancing the client experience. While our profits might not hit the highest quartile on paper, our commitment to reinvestment does. How to fix a "£22bn black hole" ... Top 50 large corp tax avoiders cost UK £7-13bn annually. Offshoring =£500bn> annually Large Corp Tax Avoidance: 1. HMRC say large corp tax avoidance tax gap (the difference between the amount of tax owed and what is actually paid) = *£1.5 bn annually*​ (ONS) . Scale of Revenue from Top 50 Companies operating in UK: 2. Include global tech giants, pharma, retail, generated hundreds of billions in revenue annually​ eg Amazon, Google, Apple but tax practices & adjustments ref how they report profits locally, substantially decreased tax liabilities. Exact figures depend on how aggressively they've used tax avoidance strategies. eg shifting profits to lower-tax jurisdictions (Ireland / Luxembourg), means their effective tax rate is often 2-5% or ZERO in some cases!! whilst SME's pay 25%!!! remedying could generate c. *£2-6bn annually* Potential Revenue Recapture: 3. If Govt focus on large corps that shift profits abroad or used tax deductions aggressively, clawbacks could amount to £billion annually. If their average effective tax rate increased from 10-15% to closer to 25%, additional revenue would be c. *£2-4 billion* annually (Gov.uk) Analysis by the Public Accounts Committee highlighted companies like Google & Starbucks, likely owe hundreds of millions more if taxed fully on UK profits rather than through complex international arrangements​ Results from Other Countries: 4. France tightening tech giant tax loopholes led to an additional €1/2bn annually (Small Business UK) the UK could generate up to £1bn If UK Govt aggressively targeted the top 50 companies based on revenue generation & past tax avoidance behaviors, a reasonable estimate of potential additional tax revenue = *c.£7-13 billion* annually 5. Dis-incentivising £500bn annually of offshoring / removal of tax revenue from the UK would result in hundreds of thousands of UK jobs returning every single year, along with huge tax revenues currently lost A nominal tax on offshoring of say 10%, to encourage revenue & jobs to remain in the UK would generate £50bn annually, potentially more if many of those jobs remained in the UK 1. £1.5bn 2. £2-6bn 3. £2-4bn 4. £1bn 5. £50bn = £56.5-62.5bn annual increased revenues Now it begs the question, why Keir Starmer Rt Hon Rachel Reeves The Labour Party encourage large corp tax avoidance?? Why would you try to fill a leaking dam with a tea strainer? Instead of chasing money that belongs to us? You're taxing small business owners more & more, claiming we're not the 'hard workers' that need to be looked after. Increasing tax on entrepreneurs, increasing employer NIC (that large corporates pass on to Inside IR35 contractors), encouraging offshoring at record levels, continuing highly skilled work visas that are not needed, when many UK highly skilled workers are out of work It's either total ineptitude or large corp puppet masters are really in charge Which is it Keir? #SME #TaxTheTaxAvoiders #TaxEquality

Dismissals for gross misconduct at HMRC are at a five-year high. Data obtained by The Telegraph shows that so far this year, 179 tax office workers have been sacked for serious breaches of workplace conduct. That’s 43% more than 2020. Gross misconduct is behaviour so serious that it can warrant instant dismissal. Examples include bullying, theft, intoxication, damage to company property, gross negligence or other behaviours that could harm the organisation. At HMRC, it could include the unlawful disclosure of sensitive taxpayer information or fraud undertaken using company systems. As an example, earlier this year, a tax office worker was jailed for two years and four months after abusing her role to defraud the taxpayer out of £300k in child benefit. The 179 workers fired for gross misconduct in 2024 made up over half of all 321 dismissals at HMRC, which employs over 65,000 staff. #HMRC #dismissal #grossmisconduct #news

This was very interesting. Worth listening to. However we know the main takeaways - Entrepreneurs relief, CGT and R&D…..???? What next.. I am crossing all fingers and toes that this new government will realise - that small startups create new tech and innovation - not large tech companies - that these start ups and scale ups have no cash and struggle to find investment as they are loss making as you have to break many eggs to make an omelette - claiming overseas consultancy is integral. We can’t afford or find UK labour as a general rule and rely on overseas developers in particular to make these tech innovations. The tech industry will die unless we protect these things! HMRC's pilot scheme for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA) is now live. Accountants, agents and individuals can sign up for the pilot and test the programme out. The pilot aims to assess the MTD for ITSA with an initial focus on those who are self-employed and landlords with annual income exceeding £50,000.
