The faculty board comprising members representing senior business people from a variety of backgrounds including preparers, investors, users and auditors, exists to provide direction and oversight to the faculty's activities.

My article for the faculty's journal "By All Accounts", addressed alternatives to the Financial Reporting Council's proposals for the future of UK GAAP.

I steered the finance and premises committee through challenging times with an effective decrease in state funding, challenging Ofsted assessments, the departure of a head teacher and the resignation of the Chair of Governors. This required an unremitting focus on the longer term objectives, issues and challenges as well as maintaining balance between executive direction and appropriate governance.

I directed the preparation of longer term multi-year budgets to indicate the potential impact of lower government funding and drive an assessment of appropriate ways to react. Particular challenges included understanding and overseeing the management of the terms of complex PFI and Facilities Management Contracts, and ensuring compliance with HMRC guidelines regarding voluntary contributions from parents / guardians.

I also served as a member of the Strategy, Personnel and Pay committees.

The Trustees' role comprises overseeing the management of investments undertaken by a professional investment manager, ensuring appropriate oversight and monitoring of grants to the school, sourcing additional donations and monitoring compliance with the trusts' constitutions and appropritate regulation. I took an active role in assessing the investment manager and in liaising with external auditors.
