General election. Seasonality. Tough market. The perfect storm? I wish this month's Firefish Software recruitment industry performance update were more positive, but it's been a challenging month across perm, temp and contract. TL;DR🚀: - The total volume of placements decreased by 8%. - Temporary & contract placements decreased by 6%. - Permanent placements decreased by 10%. Further insights📖: - Jobs created decreased by 8% in June however placements made were still 2% higher than June 2023. - Total applications decreased by 14% on the month. - Only the Finance & Accountancy sector delivered positive growth on May. Every mistake listed is one to keep in mind, as they have been suggest by highly successful SDRs and Sales Leaders who I have spoken to over the last few years. Using AI is great, and mastering its usage makes you extremely efficient. The majority of my network is involved in selling or utilising artificial intelligence! But using it blindly is akin to trying to sell to a prospect in a monotonous, under-researched and dry tone. There's a worrying trend re-emerging in IT teams across the UK... Off-Shoring is back on the rise! In the past week, I've spoken to the IT/Cloud teams at 4 different businesses... All are either at risk of or have already been made redundant because of an off shoring strategy 😲 Over the past 2/3 years, we'd seen a bit of slow down in off-shoring as a strategy. It had been replaced with nearshoring or the souring of remote talent. But something has changed... The large IT Outsourcer / Off-Shorers seem to be winning BIG Stripping out whole UK teams and moving the service out of the UK Has the economic landscape in the UK over the past couple of years pushed businesses to take drastic action to deliver cost savings? Probably 🤷‍♂️ It’s a stark reminder that no matter how skilled or strategic your role might be, the pursuit of cost savings can still put jobs at risk. As offshoring gains momentum again, it’s crucial for Cloud/IT professionals to focus on developing skills in emerging technologies, staying adaptable, and understanding how to add value beyond just technical delivery. Now is the time to adapt, evolve, and stay ahead of the curve.
