Following today’s rise in the UK #manufacturing PMI, there is cautious optimism in the sector. James Brougham, senior economist at Make UK says: “As the first issue of this data since the new government came to power, all eyes have been on what this significant electoral majority may manifest for industrial confidence in the second half of the year. Cautious positivity is in the air as the sector has seen continued expansion for three consecutive months, the longest sustained positive run for two years. Eased worries have translated into a slowdown in destocking, subsequently returning demand for the sector’s products to growth. However, just as this demand returns, so too does the ghost of the past that haunted the sector for so long. Manufacturer’s input price inflation has struck its highest point in one and a half years, reminding the sector that it is uniquely sensitive to demand-side pressures. Surprising cost saving advice: don’t use packaging materials that are highly flammable. Even if the materials are cheap, the insurance costs — and potential product waste due to fires — will leave your bank account weeping. Make it a rule to always consider materials that DON’T require insane insurance backups. Plastic packaging, which is being replaced by many already, is highly flammable and produces toxic fumes. Wool, on the other hand, is fire resistant. When set on fire it smoulders in relative safety. Pro tip: find a supplier who can educate you on both the packaging AND how to implement it throughout your entire supply chain. What else would you add? PS. Under the new Simpler Recycling legislation, businesses with 10 employees and more must separate dry recyclables into dedicated containers and ensure food waste is collected separately, regardless of the amount produced, starting from March 2025. Businesses with fewer than 10 employees have time until March 2027 to comply. Local authorities will also be required to comply with the new Simpler Recycling reforms for waste collected from households from March 2026, providing more consistent recycling and waste collection services, including weekly food waste collections.

The difference between me 15 years ago and today is stark! With significant implications… Then – I hid behind my Procurement Visor Now – I’ve dropped my artificial guard Then – I (metaphorically) revved my chainsaw in front of suppliers Now – I cut wood with them Then – I must have appeared arrogant Now – I realise my prior stance was aloof Then – I can’t have got the best deals Now – I create value with the other party I look back on the contrast with disbelief! So, what changed? In 2015 I set up my own business And had to sell my wares! I presented my offer to many folk Thankfully, lots with visors up :) A few with visors down :( I realised how different the two approaches are Which triggered me to make some fundamental changes Not just lifting up my visor Rather taking my helmet off altogether The benefits are tangible: -  I’m sure suppliers prefer to work with me today -  Information flows more freely both ways -  I’m comfortable being me -  No need to hide Is your visor up or down? I agree that is a good solution to reduce virgin plastic consumption but my concern is about the 4 corners of the palletization diagram. What may happen to the boxes palletized on this places? Do you think that It's necessary to apply 4 corner post to avoid any damages produced by the tape strength?

It is well known that supplying liners for kitchen food waste caddies and kerbside food waste bins increases the amount of food waste that is separately collected, diverting more of it from #residual waste bins. #Householder surveys in the UK carried out as part of WRAP food waste collections trials in past years suggested that participation would be significantly affected if supplies of free liners were removed and residents were then required to purchase liners from retail outlets. #foodwastebin #kerbsidefoodwaste #resudualwastebin #compostablelinerm #UK

The drop reveal...... ✅️Between 2022 & 2023 approximately 3.6 billion parcels were shipped in the UK. ✅️If only 1% of those had an actual item damaged, never mind the box damage itself that's a staggering 36 million possible returns. The UK Government has confirmed the Deposit Return Schemes for drinks containers will be delayed until October 2027.    On 25th April, all four devolved Governments reached alignment on the following key topics:   ·      Joint registration and reporting ·      Labelling ·      Reciprocal returns ·      Deposit level ·      Minimum container size ·      Low volume sales   The Department of Agriculture and Rural development, Northern Ireland Government (DAERA) and the UK Government have come to an agreement that polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles, steel and aluminium cans will be included in the scope of the UK DRS, whereas glass drink containers will be excluded when the scheme launches.   The Scottish Government have also agreed to commence DRS in Scotland on this basis however, the Welsh Government intend to include glass when their DRS scheme launches. A move which would create different market conditions within the UK, which could lead to consumer confusion.   Time will tell if the Welsh Government will reconsider its position re the inclusion of glass in the scope of their DRS and if so, a unified and consistent scheme across all four governments can be achieved.   The scheme is expected to boost recycling levels for in-scope containers to over 90% by year 3 of the scheme’s operation, a welcomed boost indeed!   See below for the updated UK DRS Timeline.   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/etXxiwjX #aura #DRS #packaginglegislation #packaging #circulareconomy #reuse #recycle
