Whether it's teaching young players the basics or guiding my senior team through tough opponents, it’s about anticipating the next move and adapting quickly. That same mentality has been a game-changer in my role at Asperitas, where we’re innovating in data center cooling with solutions like immersion cooling designed to be energy-efficient and future-proof. Much like rugby, where you push through the tackles and stay focused on the try line, my work involves staying ahead of the curve, constantly seeking ways to help businesses become more sustainable and effective. Working in immersion cooling requires grit, there are no easy wins, but the long-term gains for the environment and efficiency are undeniable. What I love most is how these two passions blend. 🏆 Whether I’m developing players on the rugby pitch or helping clients improve their data center operations, I’m driven by the same goals: teamwork, strategy, and the pursuit of excellence. At the end of the day, it’s all about the people around you. On the field, it’s your teammates who’ve got your back. An excellent article by Chris Stabler outlining the potential uses of constraints led approaches (CLA). I believe CLA is an outstanding method of engaging large groups whilst being able to constantly adapt the session based on observations made by the coaching team. However, as Chris touched on, CLA is a non linear approach to pedagogy and should be treated as such. It is vital the coaching team maintain the use of such constructivist approaches and allow the players to solve the problems as a collective, without too much external feedback. This process often takes time and requires patience from all parties to allow those to develop at differing rates, however in my opinion and experience the players learning is often more profound through this method. #coaching #pedagogy #development #CLA #rugbyunion

Continuing on from my last post where I outlined part 1 of my plan to address the challenges of the CEV’s financial model, it is clear we need to approach our understanding of our sport, our fans and the wider sport market in a more professional manner. Market research, segmentation, and competitive analysis are crucial for volleyball's growth. They help us understand fan preferences, develop targeted strategies, and attract new audiences. Competitive analysis reveals strengths and weaknesses, identifies growth opportunities, and keeps us ahead of market trends. By combining these methods, we can better engage fans, attract sponsors, and ensure the long-term success of European volleyball. I have approached my candidacy for President of the European Volleyball Confederation with the seriousness and responsibility it deserves. Guided by my academic background, I took a scientific approach and conducted a competitive analysis of volleyball across Europe. To foster growth, we must use a strategic, data-driven approach that leverages market knowledge and competitive analysis. This will help us define challenges, create effective strategies, and support our National Federations. By collaborating with them to develop tailored plans, we can unlock volleyball’s full potential, enhance visibility, attract investment, and ensure growth across each country. It is the CEV’s responsibility to take the lead on ensuring that volleyball reaches its full potential, while also helping National Federations compete in their own markets. A comprehensive review of the situation in all our member nations is essential for a deeper understanding of our sport's current reach and potential. Once elected, one of my key priorities will be to ensure we undertake this analysis to. This will ensure that volleyball maximises its growth and reaches its full potential across the continent. It’s the time of year when commercial managers and sports clubs begin the crucial task of securing sponsorship for the upcoming season. The usual approach often involves turning to existing sponsors and trying to maximise their contributions or spending hundreds of hours cold calling and emailing potential new sponsors to explain the benefits of supporting their club. As the game evolves and the world becomes increasingly interconnected, particularly UK clubs need to start thinking outside the box. The goal should be to attract sponsorship from across the globe. In the digital age, the reach of a club can extend far beyond its local area, making it an attractive proposition for sponsors when paired with the right campaigns, activations, and content. Gone are the days when trackside advertising or photos with the chairman and star player were sufficient. Today's sponsors are looking for a return on their investment (ROI). They seek engaging and innovative ways to connect with their audience through their association with sports clubs. At Game Changing Media (GCM), we use our relationship with our sister company, Digital Footprints, to bridge this gap. We work with clients worldwide who are interested in sports sponsorship. These companies are ready to invest in Scottish sports; our role is to match them with the right clubs. We are excited to announce that we have partnered up with bestselling author, Dan Freedman, to launch 'The Football Why Project'. The competition is open to all pupils in years 5 & 6 and will require them to get creative. We are asking them to write a poem about 'why you should play football'. The poem should be no more than 200 words long but can be written in their preferred poetry format.  Plus, for years 7 & 8 pupils! We are asking them to write a piece of persuasive writing of no more than 300 words. The topic for this piece is 'Why is football bigger than just playing on a field'? All winners of our 'Football Why Project' poetry competition will receive a copy of Dan Freedman's new book "50 Ways into Football'. In addition to this, Dan will be selecting an overall winner whose school will get the chance to do a Q&A session with him either face-to-face or virtually.   Entries should be submitted to [email protected]. 🌍 Echoing Ricardo's point, sponsors aren't targeting the thousands in the stadium, they are focused on the millions watching the live broadcast and even more people that see clips on social media, YouTube and highlight packages. Adverts need to resonate with the global audience. 📈 When leveraged correctly, LED advertising is an incredibly valuable asset, particularly when brands adopt creative and engaging activations. 🖌 The slick and clean pieces of content are more often than not the most successful. Less is more. 🎨 It's important that venues use tools to keep certain ads away from one another, be it brands in the same industry or similar coloured content appearing consecutively, this is obviously something you want to avoid. 💯 The use of fan engagement tools such as live fan voting, shown in The Hundred, is something that football hasn't yet immersed itself in. Perhaps that's to come in the next few years... 📣 Of course there are tools available to help you do all of the above. Karl Birch asked me to answer some questions on transitioning from Sport to work, I am a terrible writer so went for the video response, and tried to keep it quick. Top Tips Are: 1. Enjoy your early years and focus on your sport 2. When you start to have time then do small bits to aid your transition 3. Use your network to find what career you want to do and how to get into it 4. Don't let a lack of Uni degree hold you back 5. Set a goal in life, work or even exercise to focus on to keep you focused on the next stage and not the past.
