Beware what lurks within your backup vaults.      I once had an SAP client that burned through £10,000s in unnecessary storage spend by snapshotting entire VMs, including OS and paging volumes every 10mins. That may have been fine had each snapshot taken less than 10mins and actually completed. Regrettably, that wasn't the case and the client was left with spiralling storage costs for snapshots from which it could never recover. Its Recovery Point Objective (RPO) was blown to pieces. Some tips:    1) Take care to align snapshots with RPO values to reduce cost and carbon. For example, why snapshot every 10 minutes when your RPO is 60 minutes?    2) Focus on your data, after all every byte unnecessarily backed-up will cost you more in storage and burn excess carbon as it churns through memory, CPU and I/O to reach its destination. 3) Only ever snapshot those volumes that host RPO-sensitive data. Your OS and executables volumes should be made easily recoverable from an image. #sap #sapbasis #backup #greenit #finops

💲 Another day, another price increase.. 💲 Microsoft have announced they are standardising their monthly billing structure for some OLS including M365, O365, Dynamics & Power Platform SKUs. 🤷 What does this mean? 🤷 From April 1st, customers who consume these licenses via CSP, MCA-E and Buy Online will see a 5% uplift in price if they want to continue with monthly billing, or can choose to pay upfront for their annual subscription at their renewal date, and keep their existing pricing. 👀 What else? 👀 Copilot has been thrown into the mix, and billing options will be standardised in the same way, allowing you to be invoiced monthly for an annual term commitment. Teams Phone pricing is increasing, along with an additional 5% uplift in costs if you're being billed monthly. PowerBI SKUs are going up too. After April 1st, all new and renewing licenses will be affected by a fairly significant price increase.
