Flowing into Q2 and things are finally picking up in #SportsTech! 💰 Investment dealflow in April alone ($435m) nearly matched the total for Q1 ($465m). Good to see some momentum building in the ecosystem. 🗺️ Geography: North America has been the most active region throughout the year now, month after month. With only some minor M&A activity in Europe. 🎯 Sectors: The Activity & Performance Sector which includes Solutions ‘For Athletes’ has been on the rise for the past few months, seeing 90% of all dealflow. However, M&A still has an equal split between solutions for athletes and for fans. 🚀 Top Deals: $400 million in funding for Riddell, Inc., an industry leader in football helmet technology. $250 million acquisition of Drone Racing League by Infinite Reality. Historically Q2 has been a strong quarter for SportsTech. We’re off to a good start so expect plenty more to follow. OneFootball continue to expand its US footprint, agreeing a deal with Major League Soccer which incorporates near live highlights, supplementary content, and a stake in the online platform. OneFootball has numerous deals in place with teams and leagues to have a stake in their platform, but it's been some time since they've done a deal like this. The deal is a needed one for the MLS, as they largely sit 'hidden' globally as part of its $2.5 billion Apple deal, leaving limited exposure outside its own channels. The emergence of Premier Padel, the new world tour owned by Qatar Sports Investments, has been a game changer for player prize pool. Players' take for winning Major events now exceeds USD50k, up 2.5x from the Masters Final of the World Padel Tour Newly formed competitions like Pro Padel League in the US and Hexagon Cup in Europe distribute prize pools of USD1m+ while others like Ultimate Padel Tour UPT and Reserve Cup distribute about a quarter of this. With padel rapidly becoming a global sport now broadcast in 180+ countries, larger competitions will emerge. Back in 2021 only a handful of players earned USD100k on tour.
