154 Quant Insight's model say 154.37 is where #USDJPY "should" trade given the current macro environment. Two observations: 1️⃣ Macro momentum has stalled of late. ◾ model fair value (the blue line) bottomed Dec 15th (2 weeks before spot bottomed) & has been trending higher in 2024. ◾ it has been flat-lining around 154.50 for 2 weeks now. Yes interest rate differentials point to higher USDJPY but, more recently, weaker #crude oil prices & credit spreads re-tightening have acted as an offset. ◾ the spike to 160 took the cross one sigma (2.3%) rich to aggregate #macro conditions. 2️⃣ Macro's importance is slipping. ◾ the bottom chart shows model confidence is now below our 65% threshold for a macro regime. ◾ hardly surprising with #intervention becoming the biggest driver of price action. But the fall in model confidence is modest in that context. ◾ #macro remains important.
