The problem with website projects... Let's face it, launching a new website is a pain in the arse. A necessary evil perhaps. I mean, you need to create content, imagery, get sign off, stakeholders involved, manage the supplier, manage the budget. And so on and so on... So when you get the point of actually launching it, it's understandable that you're already sick of it. But that's where the problems start. I know. I've been there on multiple occasions. But, a good website can be a content hub, a candidate conversion tool, and a client lead generator. A ideally, help your employer brand too. It can be the difference between a profitable marketing function and a cost centre. That's why it's so important that you build a plan for iteration and ongoing development when you build your new site. Like everything, it must evolve, it must be relevant, and it must work hard to deliver ROI. Speak to your audiences, build, measure, and repeat. Because websites might be a pain in the arse, but they can also help give your campaigns a kick up the arse just when they need it. And if you need help with any of this, I am happy to help (not to build a website obvs, but I'd happily recommend some good ones)

Why are marketing leaders struggling to find great marketers? Lately, I have had lots of conversations with frustrated CMOs and Marketing Directors. “Do you know anyone good for a demand gen role we have open?” “I’m having a really hard time finding our first marketer” “I need to build out my marketing team but am having a hard time finding good talent” While most people might think that engineering roles are the hardest to fill, I think marketing roles have become even harder to hire for. You can give software developers a coding test to tell whether they’re good or not. But hiring for marketing is a little more ambiguous... Education, CV’s and even past performance have become bad indicators for future success in marketing. For example, in marketing CV’s you see things like: “I grew web conversions at my company from x to y %” “I contributed the highest volume of leads for my company” “During my time at x company, our social media following grew from x to y” But what do those statements even mean? How can you REALLY tell if a candidate will be a good hire for your company and make an impact? These are the main reasons marketing roles are harder to fill: Marketers are GOOD BULLSHITTERS I’ll just come out and say it… marketers are great at bullshitting. As an experienced marketing recruiter, even I have trouble deciphering whether someone knows what they’re talking about, or whether they’re just good at rattling off buzzwords and things they’ve read in articles. There’s no clear cut test to indicate whether someone will be effective in their marketing role. 👉Education Doesn’t Prepare People for Success in Marketing What uni someone went to isn’t a good indicator of how successful they’ll be in a marketing role. Stop filtering candidates out according to which uni And what course they went too. Real life experience always trumps theoretical knowledge. 👉A nice, pretty CV doesn’t mean a great candidate Just because someone can write a good CV, with lots of nice buzz-words in it, doesn’t mean they are a competent marketer. After all, they are likely to have paid someone to write their CV. Interview a candidate to really get to know what makes them tick, what drives them, what kind of company they want to work for. That's what I provide for my clients. The ability match the person behind the CV with the best companies. It’s a skill I’ve honed over 20 years of recruiting AND I like to think I’m pretty good at it… (ahem) Get to know them. There is a person behind every CV. Who's with me?

Trying to secure renewals when clients are wanting a reduction in costs and yet they're wanting more for their money. So as an agency margins are squeezed and therefore standards could be compromised. They know they need more people but the numbers don't add up. And yet very few agencies have a sales strategy or anyone responsible for new business. It baffles me every time. No business in any industry would survive without a sales strategy. 🔥 Burnout Concerns Among Marketers 🔥 New research from the Chartered Institute of Marketers (CIM) reveals that 56% of marketers fear burning out. The relentless pace of the industry, coupled with mounting pressures and roll out of new technologies, has left many professionals feeling close to overwhelmed. 💰 Budget Worries 💰 But that’s not all. 59% of marketers worry that brands will cut marketing budgets due to economic pressures. As companies tighten their belts, marketing departments are bracing for potential cutbacks. 💼 Salary Stagnation 💼 Adding to the stress, a significant 18% reported that their salaries remained unchanged. Meanwhile, just over a third (36%) saw modest increases ranging from 1% to 5%. It’s a delicate balancing act for marketers as they navigate both burnout concerns and financial stability. During recent conversations many professionals seemed to have lost some of passion and enthusiasm about their roles. Surely more needs to be done to help ease the burden on marketing professionals? Using multiple agencies doesn’t work. 📣 Spread your bets will give you success right? Nope, you’re wrong. Why? 🚩🤯 -Prioritising speed rather than quality. -Motivating the wrong type of competition. -Focus shifts to exclusive/higher paying clients. -Candidate chaos- imagine 3/4 recruiters calling the same candidates. -Brand protection, can they all sell the opportunity & understand the business. -Your time, multiple emails/calls/meetings. -Encouraging D&£khead behaviour with candidate representation. Give yourself the best chance of filling the role. Take time selecting a recruitment partner with a proven track record. 👊🏼
