TEAMcard and Silverstone Circuit agree new expanded venue-wide partnership Silverstone Circuit, the home of British motorsport and host venue to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix has renewed with TEAMcard in an expanded agreement that will cover access control, accreditation, visitor management and verification services for the entire 155-acre site. Silverstone partnered with TEAMcard for venue access control in 2021, setting the foundations for a successful partnership that saw two record-breaking summers for racing fans entering the circuit. Matthew Evans, Business Systems Manager at Silverstone, said: "Working with TEAMcard has been a real game-changer for us. We have a whole host of different events that take place across the year attracting all sizes of crowds, from domestic race meetings to major events like Silverstone Festival, MotoGP and Formula 1. Regardless of the event size, the TEAMcard access control solution works seamlessly every time – we know we can really trust it." Now moving towards a third year in partnership, Silverstone have expanded their relationship with TEAMcard by activating the use of additional modules in the TEAMcard product stack – Accreditation, Visitor Management and Verification. These new modules will allow Silverstone to organise, manage and record the movements of every person arriving at the circuit, 365 days a year from a single system. Certainly the most significant post to have come out of Eleven Sports Media on this channel. I’m delighted to announce that Eleven has attracted a multi-million pound investment from one of the leading private equity houses in the UK and Ireland, BGF. On 31st March 2021, Eleven became under single ownership for the first time. We unveiled a three-year plan internally that was ambitious by anyone’s standards, but to outsiders it understandably could have been viewed as unrealistic. In addition to hitting all the centrally important financial milestones, the plan included: ·      Doubling the size of Eleven’s team from 30-60. ·      Launching Eleven’s business model in the US and mainland Europe.  ·      Enhancing Eleven's technology offering to enable global expansion with multilingual capabilities. ·      Opening a second office in a UK city. ·      Work with all four major US sports leagues suited to the Eleven model. ·      Achieve 50% of all revenue from outside of the UK. We delivered on all objectives, including many more beyond those listed. The final objective for the three-year plan was to attract third-party investment that would support the business’ ambition in becoming one of the leading specialist sponsorship agencies in the world. So almost three-years to the day since unveiling the plan, I’m delighted that’s exactly where we find ourselves. I would like to say thank you to BGF, who have proven themselves over a lengthy process to carry all the attributes we want from a partner. Diligent, considered, transparent and fair being among those qualities. Special thanks to Rhys Davenport and Josh Bean at BGF. A huge thank you to the dozens of sports organisations around the world that have placed their trust in Eleven over the years and to the thousands of small independent businesses that have put their faith in us to deliver a best-in-class service. The biggest thank you today goes to all the staff that continue to apply their passion and dedication at Eleven. Whilst instilling the three-year plan, one of the key things we did was to introduce a company-wide share/incentive scheme to reward the staff that are so important to the business. That shared sense of success is a big part of our progress. I’d Encourage any early-stage entrepreneur to consider this in their planning. As we set off on this new chapter in Eleven’s history, we do so with a greater sense of ambition and purpose than ever before. Some really interesting research here from PARITY | A Group 1001 Company. Not so much for telling us things we didn’t know or suspect but for putting the weight of careful research behind it. A lot to digest in this, and very useful if you’re looking for regional data. Those of you toiling at the coal face of women’s sport will not be surprised by most of the data here - but then I don’t think Parity want to preach to the choir. So hopefully some of you out there, especially brands and agencies will look at this data carefully and make some smart decisions! This makes for an interesting comparison with the most recent summer Olympic Games in Europe, London 2012. Paris 2024 has delivered slightly higher domestic sponsorship revenue - 1.2m Euros vs (allowing for inflation) London’s 1.1m - but from many more domestic sponsors; 64 in contrast to London’s 45. I wonder what some of the Paris sponsors who were earliest to sign up have made of the ever-increasing sponsor clutter around them. Clutter is on the rise in the summer Games. Tokyo 2020 had 68 domestic sponsors, a big rise on Rio 2016, which had around 30, and London 2012. And remember, sitting on top of these 64 in Paris are the IOC’s 15 global Olympic sponsors. A final point. At least 50 per cent of Paris’s sponsorship revenue is likely to have come in the form of value in kind (products and services) rather than cash. This is never reported or indeed understood by the mainstream media, but it is a standard feature of the Olympic Games operating model, because the Games is in effect a giant joint venture between the organisers and its business partners, in order to deliver the biggest and most complex sporting event on the planet. #Paris2024 #sponsorship #sportsmarketing #Olympicsponsorship

Missed this when it came out but - as ever and always - Richard is really worth a listen. He makes a good point here re sport’s ability to engage with government. And, if you’ll forgive the hint of confirmation bias, I can’t help feeling that this is one of the consequences of the way the sector has often relegated communications and public leadership to a secondary or even tertiary priority. Ie - rather than establishing the societal value sport creates and working from there to tell great, big stories - the priorities have been the next quarter or even no further than the next match. A body like the one established by the creative industries could work really well if we can coalesce around some common interests. That might mean looking beyond short-term public affairs battles local to some sports - like a regulator, telly stuff or betting - and thinking about which tides will lift all boats.

In the wake of my post this week on the relationship between #padel and the LTA, can I ask any stakeholders in the UK padel scene who would like to contribute to as well as share their views and experience on the interplay between the sport and the LTA to get in contact with me (publicly or privately). At this stage I want to collect names and understand and coordinate views, whether positive or negative, what should continue, what should change, objectives, timelines, limitations etc. I will try to then coordinate a forum based on that intel to really fine tune the feelings of the group. Ideally we can end that phase with a decision on next steps and any meeting with the LTA. As an aside, if anyone (not necessarily from within padel) has experience of building and standing up a #nationalgoverningbody #NGB in the UK, how to work constructively with UK Sport and Sport England and the relevant #InternationalFederation #IF etc that perspective could be really useful as well. FTA sport's economic benefit "An independent report commissioned by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) from Oxford Economics estimates that the economic impact of public service media (PSM) sports broadcasting contributed €4.9 billion to Europe’s GDP and supported over 60,000 jobs in 2022. The findings include direct contributions from content production and broadcasting and significant indirect and induced impacts due to supply chain spending and employees’ consumer expenditure. The study also explores wider impacts, such as the way in which PSM coverage attracts sponsorship income for sport." It's a really interesting finding. Conventional wisdom is that sports is so popular that people will pay for it, and take adverts, and so there is big incentive to keep behind a paywall. It's what still is the lynchpin for #paytv and keeps it going. That's why in the UK the Premier League is on Sky on pay-TV. In Spain La Liga is on Movistar, DAZN and Orange, Germany, DAZN Sky Deutschland etc etc. And yet, when you have big events like the World Cup both mens and womens football, the European Cup, Rugby, Cricket etc. these are on FTA, and drive much greater viewing than paytv, and even with the appeal of sports, the reach on FTA is so much greater, and it will people who wouldn't normally get involved in national events, suddenly tune in. "The report also reveals the many benefits of FTA sports broadcasting on culture and society, reinforcing the pivotal and unifying role of PSM organisations in this space. “Our analysis unveils a symbiotic relationship between free-to-air sports broadcasting and economic vitality, illustrating the far-reaching ripple effects of this dynamic industry right across the continent,” commented Doug Godden, Lead Economist at Oxford Economics and author of the report. “What’s more, providing sporting action to audiences for free has great value to the public of the countries in which EBU Members operate.”....As well as providing broader economic advantages such as leveraging additional income streams for sports through sponsorship, advertising revenue and event hosting fees (and often stimulating local tourism from visiting sports fans), FTA media exposure can also help grow and expand the fan base of ‘emerging’ sports, leading to increased gate receipts and merchandising." There was an interesting session on #sportforclimateaction at COP29 Azerbaijan where impact on athletes performances , future of sports, investments and best practices were discussed. World Climate Athletes has been working for a long time now to create “access to capital for grassroots clubs” an innovative concept much liked and validated at COP29 Azerbaijan with global banks, sports bodies and institutions, large corporations and fund managers as well as the United Nations. Most probably pilot will be with #Cricket. Marylebone Cricket Club has always been at the forefront of making cricket a more sustainable sport through #efficientenergy consumption, #wastemanagemet and #groundwaterharvesting amongst other things. Sport for Business members gathered on Friday morning for the latest in our Smart Minds Series looking at Sustainability and Sport. It was a nice prelude to today's #EarthDay. The imperative to do something together is real. Sport understands time-limited actions. It is what we do, so let’s see what is possible. Friday's participants are, in the main, on the front line of addressing the challenges as they arrive, in every form from reporting and monitoring to persuading and budgeting, all the way to storytelling and keeping on top of regulation. This was a good safe space in which we could share the wins and not feel so overwhelmed by the apparent size of the challenge but also the necessity and the opportunity to step up in this area. Sport has an unmatched connection to how people feel and if we can drive initiatives that reduce our emissions and also nudge people towards changing their behaviour, that will be a win, in an area where if we lose we will lose big. We are now looking at ways in which Irish Sport can stay connected in this area. There will be a new feature and hub on the Sport for Business website which we will launch shortly as a gathering point for shared experience across the whole sector, and we are keen to do more as well. Leaders in Sport delivering some thought provoking and insightful content (as always). The idea of the unconscious bias we all have when you hear the word football was particularly interesting and really challenged my thinking that we should be aiming for women's sport to just be sport. Are we doing the game and category a disservice thinking this? Rebranding Women's Football and giving it is own identity creates a unique platform for growth.
