It's disappointing to see the news that the CMA has chosen to renew its contract with AWS – despite currently investigating the impact that hyperscaler anti-competitive practices are having on UK cloud.   In all honesty, it’s a huge blow to all those operating in UK cloud. This could have been a way to promote competition in the UK market and support the challenger and homegrown providers, rather than signing the biggest deal yet with the hyperscaler provider.   I shared my thoughts on the situation with Christine Horton, who explored the impact of agreements, like the UK’s One Government Value Agreement 2.0 (OGVA), have had on public sector IT spending.   There’s an election on the horizon and whoever’s in No.10 this time next year needs to be considering this with some urgency.    Take a look at Christine’s article in Channel Futures here: https://lnkd.in/ek3H4743

One of my favourite tech blogs. The #Slack tech blog There is nothing like solving challenges at scale. Moving to Instance Metadata Service V2 is a something we should all be doing, a commitment to high security postures. TLDR V2 of the IDMS moves requests to PUT's with Auth behind every request, versus the simple GET in V1, which if your EC2 instance is comprimised, IDMS V1 can disclose plenty of information that can help an attacker traverse your environment. 60,000 #EC2 instances, custom #Terraform modules, SCP's solving a very real world problem.

Incredibly proud of the latest Kinesis Client Library version (3.0) which, when compared to previous KCL versions, reduces compute costs by up to 33%. KCL 3.0 introduces an enhanced load balancing algorithm that continuously monitors resource utilization of the stream processing workers and automatically redistributes the load from over-utilized workers to other underutilized workers. This ensures even CPU utilization across workers and removes the need to over-provision the stream processing compute workers which reduces cost. Additionally, KCL 3.0 is built with the AWS SDK for Java 2.x for improved performance and security features, fully removing the dependency on the AWS SDK for Java 1.x. #Kinesis #DataStreaming #KCL

💭 This week one of CRNs Top 100 UK VAR's approached me asking about the Google Cloud (specifically GCP) partner program and it got me thinking (and researching)... Should I be shocked to conclude that GCP is hardly offered as an option? That multi-cloud means AWS and Azure to most. Ingram Micro and Google are working hard to change the story. We just acquired WarpStream at Confluent, and I couldn't be more excited! But why? There's a lot of reasons to love the Cloud, and I've seen huge successes within customers like Curve and Funding Circle UK who have jumped headfirst into Confluent Cloud, but sometimes there are challenges that end up slowing down full adoption of a fully managed service. Confluent Platform offers an alternative for hosting your own data streaming platform, but the overhead of managing this can be a burden for smaller teams. WarpStream's BYOC option will allow us to help those stuck in the middle.
