Can ChatGPT do SEO for me? It depends…   Whilst ChatGPT is very good for very specific questions or augmenting existing knowledge, it isn’t useful enough yet for insightful analysis or providing nuanced advice—it misses vital context.

What's one thing which is so overlooked when running a google ads account? We recently audited multiple google ad accounts across various brands, they all had one thing missing - SCRIPTS! Scripts are a really useful hack to get extra insights across your google ads accounts. We mentioned the Pmax Network script by Mike Rhodes to another agency the other day, & they replied... 'so what...?'. The key is what you do with this data. For the pmax network script, you can use these insights into where you are showing & then can tailor ads to either maximise across what's best performing or tailor ads to show more across other networks which you are missing out on. The JBH Link Mapping Tool. Looking at a spreadsheet of links can be super challenging. It's all data and numbers. But... When you visualise things, it looks very different. We built this as part of our internal tool stack, and I use it in all SEO strategies for clients. I can quickly zoom in and see any link, look at pages where links are clustered and identify areas where more links are needed. It is also super helpful for identifying sites with spammy links that are likely to be devalued or are causing issues. This is a new SEO client and has done quite well building its brand and has some solid brand mentions and links, despite only having a DR 23 score. It's just one of the many internal tools we've developed. This is one of my favourites because it makes my life as an SEO so easy. I can identify a website's link distribution in a clean visual in seconds. My question...is this something you'd like access to?

I've mentioned the insights from Mark Ellaway and the team at Bigfork Limited before. This report is well worth a butchers. Two takeaways that chimed with me are that '75% of B2B buyers prefer a rep–free sales experience.' and that what buyers really want from a website is information to help them buy!

🕳️ Is Performance Max the Holy Grail of PPC Advertising? Or is it a Budget Black Hole? (hint - it can be either, depending on how you approach it). This site is an extremely interesting case. Brand in the finance sector. Destroyed by the HCU update 2023. Backlinks from digital PR (and paid links), albeit some of the digital PR ones are totally off-topic, and some look like paid DPR placements. The site increased its content by 1000 pages in a year, so I suggest that it might have used AI content to scale. The site is well-designed, with lots of E-E-A-T elements. My gut says this site was hit by multiple factors: a bit of waffly content, some link devaluation, and AI content. It looks like they've deleted over 1000 pages a matter of weeks after being hit, so perhaps they took a chance. An interesting case, might reach out to the owners of this one.

Oh the irony! PPC agencies can't market themselves using PPC: not unless they have huge budgets. But most PPC agency owners don't like using LinkedIn (see RAVING review evidence below 😆). Because it's not data and clicks: it's relationship building and takes time. I have been coaching an agency owner on his LinkedIn over the last few months. He has just won a client that he really wasn't expecting to. How? 😊 We optimised his LinkedIn profile 😊 We offered value to his ideal client 😊 We established trust 😊 He didn't sell 😊 We elevated his profile across LinkedIn 😊 He was generous with his knowledge and his comments and his support for others. 😊 I gave him a list of the ideal people for him to connect with. 😊 I coached him through the relationship-building process. Only 10% of people on LinkedIn actually engage. So as soon as he got more active, he was noticed more. And we made sure his profile was set to encourage people to get in touch off LinkedIn (because senior decision makers often don't engage publicly) In this situation, his client emailed him having seen him on LinkedIn. He sent me this RAVING note... 😆 The new-client funnel is THE most important thing to get right in any business as if your leads dry up, your business dries up. Right? Over 70% of people who sign up to my email newsletter have never engaged with me on LinkedIn... yet this is the only place I market my business... How crazy is that?!

I’m seeing a lot of misdirected budget at the moment. This graph shows what happens in the 12 months after you choose to spend your SEO budget elsewhere. Everybody involved in SEO is talking about the latest Google Algo leak. There is nothing in there that is hugely surprising, but it's interesting to see some things that Google previously denied contained within the leaked documents. An early observation on the SGE launch was that we're not seeing the AI overviews generate anywhere near as often as before in our testing/tracking. Good to see that backed up in Semrush, who now have 'AI Overview' details showing up in Sensor. Using the books & literature category for example, an AI overview appears on just 0.22% of searches. This will be a good thing to keep an eye on over time. #seo #google

In front of SEO geeks (myself included), she had everyone taking notes like their rankings depending on it (and let’s face it, they probably did). 💹 Forecasting in SEO is not about achieving 100% acc., but about providing directional guidance for planning and decision-making. Always be prepared to adjust your forecasts as new data and insights become available. Also learned about SIXTRIX data. 🤓 2. Key Takeaways from Tom Vaughton 's Talk: SEO is rapidly changing, with 252,000 new websites launched daily, 12+ major algorithm updates with 3,000+ yearly changes and AI reshaping how search engines rank content. 🎯 pErFoRmAnCe MaX iS a bLaCk bOx - are we over this yet? (please excuse my very old meme 😬 ) Yes, Performance Max has slightly more limitations than we'd want from such a high value and important campaign - but I think this is indicative of Google Ads in general (see Search Query Reports for the past couple of years), rather than this exclusively being a problem with this campaign type. I mean - look at all of the available reports you can get for Performance Max; Auction Insights - understand shifts in the visibility of your competitors and how that's impacting performance. Performance Drivers - which asset groups, product groups, product types and products are driving performance changes. Performance Insights - explanations for performance fluctuations. Diagnostics Insights - understand why your ads might not be serving. Asset Audience Insights - which Audience segments are your assets resonating with. Audience Persona Insights - which Audience segments over-index in terms of conversions compared to the overall population. Search Term Insights - what search terms are you showing ads for. Search Trends - emerging trends and growth opportunities in your account. Demand Forecasts - upcoming demand expectations related to your business. And that's before we get on to all of the custom scripts that are flying around, and the reports that have been announced for H2 this year! Are you getting everything you need from PMax?
