Having spent most of my career building strategies and managing risk inside of CTAs, this article speaks to my heart. Thank you to Lydia Tomkiw at Pensions & Investments for including our Managed Futures Index as useful context. CTA's often struggle in the aftermath of strong trends and great performance, which is why allocators have historically struggled to size them appropriately and remain invested. However, as the article points out, CTA's continue to evolve and mitigate painful drawdowns, which can help allocators remain fully invested and reap the potential benefits when they are most needed. #hedgefunds #hedgefund #CTA

Many thanks to the IAPF for the opportunity to share some recent case-studies at their Autumn Conference from within the DC Pensions market across Sustainability, Net Zero, Diversified Private Credit and Diversified Private Markets. Sophisticated UN SDG portfolio construction methodologies enable the creation of portfolios that contain explicit thematics (that would otherwise be potentially volatile on a singular basis) that go beyond traditional passive exclusionary approaches. Main message with respect to illiquids was that good design entails understanding the themes and exposures that are sought, being clear about what your definition of each asset class is, efficient portfolio construction, understanding your fee budget and ongoing liquidity management, particularly relevant in the context of DC investors who will otherwise be locked into inefficient long-term private market structures. #ELTIF #LTAF #DiversifiedPrivateCredit #DiversifiedPrivateMarkets #NetZero #ESG Jerry Moriarty

We’ve been in equity friendly Recovery but higher than expected US core inflation prints, a stronger than expected economy and tensions in the Middle East are moving our Investment Clock rapidly towards Overheat. We’re long commodities and short bonds. We’re still long equities but stock markets could enter trickier territory over the summer.

In an industry not always famed for its powers of reflection, we thought it would be interesting to look back on our views in the dark days of early August where tremors in Japan rippled powerfully through global markets. https://lnkd.in/e8YWMA3s The key point, aside from Middle Eastern tensions, was that we expected Jackson Hole to mark a sea change in terms of the US rates outlook. Looking forward, with a tightly contested US election looming in a matter of days, we continue to find Japan interesting. With a largely overlooked election last weekend yielding an unexpected result, and the most negative real interest rates amongst major markets globally, what does the future hold for Japan?
