Aligning Healthtech Products with NHS Needs - An Age Old Question Healthtech companies have a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the NHS, but alignment is key. Understanding the specific needs and challenges faced by the NHS is the first, and perhaps most difficult step. This means actively engaging with NHS staff and government decision-makers to gain insights into their daily operations, pain points and objectives. Regular consultations and feedback loops can ensure that the products developed are not only innovative but also practical and user-friendly which is key. Another crucial aspect is interoperability. The NHS uses a variety of systems and platforms (often pretty old), and any new technology must seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure. This reduces the learning curve for healthcare professionals and ensures that patient care is not disrupted. Some areas such as data security and compliance with UK regulations is non-negotiable, so Healthtech companies must prioritise patient confidentiality and data protection to maintain trust and meet legal requirements. Healthtech firms should consider scalability and long-term support. The NHS is a vast organisation (ranked in the top 10 employers globally) with diverse needs across different regions. Solutions that can be easily scaled and supported over time will be more attractive. NHS trusts are leading new approaches to ensure patients can get the care they need in the right place at the right time. Our new report shows how in the face of a very challenging environment trusts are innovating and adapting to deliver the three key shifts called for by the government: 🏠moving from hospital to community-based care, 📱from analogue to digital technology, and 🧑‍⚕️from a focus on treatment to prevention. Through a series of case studies the report shows how trusts are well placed to drive this transformation, but more resource is needed to fully unlock the shift. Online guide from NHS Providers to serve as roadmap for tackling health inequalities. NHS Providers has launched an online guide designed to support NHS board members in tackling health inequalities, with the aim of the resource acting as a “roadmap” to enable people to “champion health equity and create positive change”. The guide includes a self-assessment tool covering 25 questions around data, evidence and evaluation, strategic leadership and accountability, system partnerships and more, with the tool to provide a score and maturity rating of the trust’s position across key domains. A “bespoke” set of health inequalities objectives are then suggested by the self-assessment tool, with NHS Providers encouraging trusts to use these as a basis for board-level discussion. This session will delve into the implications of the Ambitions Framework for improving palliative and end-of-life care, and how it presents both new opportunities and challenges for doulas. Talk description: The move to Integrated Care Systems in England and the adoption of the Ambitions Framework to improve palliative and end of life care has provided new opportunities and challenges for doula practice. Doulas have been teaming up and working alongside local authorities and healthcare providers. This new way of working is being monitored to find out if it is having a positive influence on the doula experience and the level of support offered to clients. This talk will introduce a method called Contribution Analysis. This type of analysis is set in a learning context, it represents a useful method to consider whether we're moving in a preferred direction. It will help Doulas ask key questions that can be answered in reflective diaries. This initiative builds on the success of the GM Care Record, offering better-informed care and treatment for people with conditions like dementia and heart failure. ✨ Best use of digital for Social Care ✨ Partners: NHS Greater Manchester Bury Integrated Delivery Collaborative & Safe Steps In collaboration with the Bury Integrated Delivery Collaborative, primary care, care homes, the local authority, and SafeSteps, a digital initiative, aimed at improving early intervention for deterioration and falls prevention in Bury care homes, was launched in 2023. The successful deployment of a digital deterioration tracker (RESTORE2 and RESTORE2 Mini) alongside a multifactorial falls prevention tool resulted in a 20% reduction in ambulance callouts across 37 care homes in Greater Manchester in January and March 2024 compared with the same period in 2023.
