As expected, both temporary and permanent placements decreased again in November 2024. At the same time, continued redundancies means that there are more candidates available to place. A few recruiters have mentioned that they’ve seen hiring take a positive turn so far in December, and ideally, this continues into the new year when hiring is more likely to pick up. No clear sign of what’s to come but one thing is clear: Sourcing and nurturing candidates ahead of time can only improve your chances of placing them once hiring starts to pick up. According to the latest ONS data, 20% of businesses reported worker shortages in September. Demand is reflected in the Firefish Software recruitment agency data in Q3, showing the strongest quarter of 2024 despite a challenging August. Positive stories across the board📈. TL;DR🚀: - Total volume of placements increased by 3%. - Jobs created increased by 5%. - Temporary & contract placements increased by 3%. - Permanent placements decreased by 6%. Sector Insights📖: - Technology placements were up 24% in perm and 35% in temp/contract. - Revenue per Recruiter increased by 106% on the previous month. - Engineering perm placements increased by 13% and 39% in temp/contract. In Q2 of this year in the UK the average Perm Consultant made 4 placements and the average Temp Consultant made 6 placements. (UK) When we looked at the consultants at the Top 5 agencies on Recruiter Insider for Candidate Experience, we discovered that: 🚀 the average Perm Consultant there made 5 placements 🚀 the average Temp Consultant made 10 placements. In Q2 alone, the agencies with the highest candidate experience scores made 1 extra Perm placement per consultant and an 4 extra temp placements per consultant. Highlighting as always the impact candidate experience has on your placement numbers. The data doesn’t lie, an improved candidate experience means more placements. If you're looking for a tip when building a book of contractors then build out your candidate base first before reaching out to clients. It seems obvious, but often all focus is given to winning clients first and then scrambling to find a candidate to fill the role you've picked up. Obviously without a client there is no placement, but without a candidate you're essentially a business with no product to sell. If you're expanding into a new market, spend the first 2-3 weeks exclusively speaking to candidates.
