What a headline! "Aukett Swanke cuts £260k audit fees with MAH hire" Digging down into the detail we are told that MAH will be the company's third auditor since October 2022, with the previous auditor having resigned after two years. Aukett Swanke says this is part of a planned £2m cost reduction programme. I'm interested in hearing from other auditors and 'the audited' out there. I believe that audit rotation is healthy but the tendering process, and the amount of work the incoming auditor needs to undertake on a new client is disruptive and comes with its own costs. However you spin this, such a frequent change of auditors will raise questions. #audit #costredution #auditor

The first things I noticed when I went for my first interview at Gerald Edelman was a card showing the members of the the Mental Health Committee and to my right, a reception desk with the phrase 'We strive for every interaction to be a positive one' writ large. This immediately made me feel that I was in the right place. Long story short, I have now celebrated six months at the firm and I am a privileged member of the Mental Health Committee. We had a great workshop yesterday, the purpose of which was to encourage conversations about mental health. All the events, webinars and informative emails we send out are all part of our work to deal with mental health but we can all take a part. A 'how are you?' or 'you're not yourself today, do you want a chat?' can be delivered by anyone, and may prevent a long term absence or even save a life. The more we talk about mental illness like we moan about a cold of flu, the more we can care for those who suffer, often in silence. David Goggins - Inspiration or Nuts? I loved his 1st book 'Can't Hurt Me' and his 2nd, 'Never Finished' may be even better. His ethos is awe-inspiring. Something to aspire to even for us mere mortals who will never achieve the feats of endurance and sheer dedication that he has. Would we all like to do a fraction of what he has? Probably. But would we be prepared to put in the Consistent Action required? Probably not. Can we learn from him, absolutely. As I said yesterday, there are fundamental building blocks to achieving anything. What are your personal and business goals? And what do you need to put in place to achieve them? I started with 3 scheduled LinkedIn posts (It's taken me 1 hour), and 2 miles this morning (It took me 1/2 hr). Pleasingly there is an increasing amount of data beginning to surface around the state of family businesses globally and while there are still challenges around succession it is a real positive to see a continued interest by the next generation to take over their family business. A study by DCU's National Centre for Family Business in Ireland found that half of college students from family businesses aspire to take over the family firm, with males showing a higher inclination towards taking over the business and feeling a stronger sense of ownership. The study also found that one-third of students reported negative or ambivalent feelings towards their family business. And while 80% have worked in the family business, only 15% have equity interest. #familybusiness #nextgenleadership #succession
