Simon Henderson, Mohit Wadan, and Fritz Jaeger from Bain's Performance Improvement and Accelerated Transformation team led an insightful session, discussing six key features for success. They highlighted the importance of focusing on productivity, covering both growth and cost, to stay competitive in all seasons. Our UK M&A Industry Trends analysis is featured in City AM highlighting deal volume and value for the first six months of 2024. The data shows total deal value for H1 2024 increased by 66% compared to the same period last year, despite total volume falling by a fifth reflecting a higher number of larger deals being announced.

Having moved to the UK three months ago, I can attest to my colleagues’ Tunde Olanrewaju and Andrew Goodman‘s findings in this excellent report: that the ambitious growth happening in many UK companies is not yet fully reflected in the stock market.    They delve into the behaviours of the UK’s top 500 companies – only a third of which are listed – to determine how the top performers are driving growth, breaking it down into a code of ‘systematic ambition’.     There are great findings here for UK business leaders seeking to maximise their organisations’ growth potential in the coming years. UK consulting headcount just dropped 3%—the first decline since 2020. Why? 1) Post-Pandemic Shift: Firms like Deloitte and PwC are trimming roles after the pandemic-driven hiring spree. The demand surge is over, and they’re adjusting. 2) Less Attrition, More Restructuring: With fewer people leaving (attrition down from 17% to 12%), firms are slowing recruitment and cutting back on staff. 3) Revenue Growth Slowing: Revenue grew 11% last year—still solid, but down from the 23% growth we saw in 2022. Exports now make up over 25% of the industry’s revenue. The consulting landscape is changing. Now is the time to adapt, refine strategies, and look for growth opportunities in new markets.
