The payment gateway Stripe migrated 1.5 PB of data into new shards. They used the following algorithm. 1. Mark data to be migrated 2. Bulk export data into new shards 3. Simultaneously, copy live data into new shards (async events) 4. Check data for correctness 5. Make clients point to new shards 6. In the past two weeks, we’ve reviewed over 450 CVs for a Head of Architecture search and more than 400 for a Head of Engineering search, each from a range of different sources. The common issue? Most CVs are just a job description in disguise. They tell us what the person was responsible for but not what they actually achieved. What’s missing? The outcomes. The impact. In such a competitive market, you can’t rely on job titles and responsibilities to tell your story. You need to show the impact you’ve made in your career. 🔑 Here’s how to stand out… 1️⃣ Be specific – What did you deliver? What projects or challenges did you face? 2️⃣ Explain the how – the methodologies, technologies, or strategies you employed. 3️⃣ Show the outcome/impact – with context, both from a technical and business perspective. What was the result of your work? How did it benefit the organisation? It’s crucial to make it easy for people to understand the difference you’ve brought. If you’re not clearly showing the value you’ve delivered, you’re relying too much on assumptions—and in today’s market, assumptions won’t cut it. Make your CV more than a job description.
