My ultimate goal is to relaunch https://lnkd.in/ezzxHaGv to complement the work of the Social Media Research Institute (SMRI). The fund and the institute were designed to work hand-in-hand with our institutional partners, creating a streamlined process without unnecessary bureaucracy. In practice, this means that if a researcher contacts SMRI with an IRB-approved proposal or pioneering perspective , they can apply for funding directly through us. We will maintain a catalog of research areas we support, and if a proposal falls outside those areas, we still welcome new, innovative topics. Since 2014, I’ve been in conversation with university deans and professors who share a common concern: the need for accurate, unbiased studies, free from the influence of big tech direct. By bridging this gap, we can support meaningful research that genuinely reflects social media’s impact on society addressing #SocialMediaHarmReduction & support #SocialMediaFirstAid developments.

It is an article by Sophie Akbar on her journey as a producer. https://lnkd.in/dzJ6X8Bj Her role at Without Walls is an outcome of the work Jeanefer and I did as consultants with the outdoor arts consortium in 2020-21. A chance for me to reflect on the change-making work we achieved with creative leaders in the industry, gathering their perceptions, thoughts, and solutions to resolve the complex challenges faced, and how to create a healthier, more equitable industry moving forward. How often do we reflect on what has been achieved, where the learning and opportunities are, and who holds those conversations? After a 360 review of Without Walls, we focused on the recommendation of low-hanging fruit with short-term and low-cost impact, along with stretch goals such as investing in talent for the long term. In Without Wall's case, a high amount of exemplary practices and authentic relationships were already in place. Receiving this article also resonates with conversations from this week about the long-term commitment to change in practice by investing in under-represented talent. On a deeper level, the brilliant work that Sophie is doing in the sector reminds me of the legacy and messages that Director Abdul Shayek shared through the consultation process, his work at Tara Theatre, and his activism for change across the industry. Successful change happens when we start with the low-hanging fruit—what can we implement straight away that builds momentum, who needs to lead that change —and what is required to make a longer-lasting impact? Thank you, Without Walls Consortium, for actively listening, the long-term commitment and the appetite for embracing change of doing things differently.

As we peel back more layers of interconnections, we will find there are more dependencies which give rise to layers of uncertainty, ambiguity and remaining is increased risk and uncertainty. No one single outcome is possible; there are always at least two. We find we are not peeling an onion but unpicking different ideals, beliefs and connectedness. Peeling the onion does not pick up the relationship and interconnectedness between the layers it does “just removing” layers. Further, even with different layers, it does not highlight the dynamic and relational processes between different onions.

I recently listened to Graeme Hill's insightful talk on how having less can actually boost our happiness. He argues that simplifying our lives is key and shares three rules to help us edit our belongings. First, focus on what we truly need and find joy in those essentials. This is absolutely awesome - I'm getting multiple people a week reaching out for guidance on how to make a shift from their current role to one that helps with the climate crisis, protects and restores biodiversity and creates a more sustainable planet.  I truly believe this is how we’ll make a change…with more and more of us spending our working hours on this challenge. Many of these people need to take time to first figure out which of the many parts of the sector they'd like to work in and then gain additional skills as well as build out their network. The good news is that while they are doing that, they can make their current job into a climate job. And they may even find they want to stay and continue to make a difference where they are once they get this going. Here are some tips on how to make your job a Climate Job: ✅ If your company has a Sustainability Officer/Director then reach out to them to meet up for coffee. You can find out more about their plans and ask how you can help to support them from your role in the company. To be successful, sustainability projects need to be de-siloed. Staff engagement is a key indicator of initiative success. It takes people throughout the organization providing vital data, changing data systems to capture the right data, breaking down barriers with supply chain vendors and more to make this work. ✅ If you don't have a sustainability leader, seek out other people who share your interest and work together to uncover how you can engage leadership and grow employee engagement. ✅ Project Drawdown has make-your-job-a-climate-job guides by job function for everyone from engineers to marketers, procurement professionals and more.  I’ll put the link in the comments. ✅ If you are able to work on sustainability adjacent or supporting roles it also serves to give you some relevant experience to add to your resume. #jobs #consciousquitting #careershift #sustainablecareers #projectdrawdown
