Alter Domus’ Patrick McCullagh attended the Private Debt Investor Europe Summit earlier this month. Key takeaways included that investors are looking for large & proven Asset Managers (AMs). Those who don’t yet have a debt capability are getting into the market by buying existing firms and there are far fewer new start-up managers. Size isn’t necessarily an issue though- newer and smaller managers succeed where they have a strong local/domestic niche, for example a specialist region or in lending only to certain sectors within newer markets.   To be the best, managers need to have clarity, demonstrate what they do differently and have a proven track record.
