Values are one of a business most valuable assets… discuss! We discovered ours after a round table team deep dive where we looked at what mattered most to us in the way we work, how we behave and interact, and what binds us together as a team. What i have learned over the years is, you don’t DECIDE what your values are, or tell others what they should be. They will be authentically lived and deeply embedded in everything you do already. Your values are already there, you just need to work out what they are! And sharing them helps to attract others with similar values too. It’s always one of our big questions in our client discovery sessions, because truthfully told values in your brand and marketing give businesses the human element and a character we can personally relate to.

💡This week, our 'Ipsos Global Trend of the week' is 'Climate Convergence’💡    For each trend we will explore what this means for the world of CX.    Climate Convergence: Dividing lines emerge in the new climate consensus Climate change is no longer a distant threat; it's a present reality impacting every facet of our lives. Ipsos's Global Trends 2024 report reveals a crucial development: Climate Convergence. Globally, views on the importance of climate action are converging, and have increased in intensity over the past ten years. The question is no longer “is climate change a concern” – there is widespread consensus that it is. The question now, is who is responsible for finding solutions and what those solutions are. The solutions, therefore, have potential to be polarizing. But there is opportunity for leaders to connect with customers and citizens to demonstrate their commitment to collaborating for a sustainable future. Today, I have been at a hotel conference listening to designers speak about the future focus of hotels and this theme ran throughout the whole event. Real, tangible ways that hotels can really play an active role from growing the vegetables and fruit on their premises and that being part of the expeirence, creating multiuse spaces for guests and local citizens, to building with sustainable products. The great Mark Ritson recently wrote a brief but provocative post about hating the title ‘creative strategist’. On behalf of the APG, the home of planners and strategists, this is an invitation for Mark to come and judge the APG’s Creative Strategy Awards 2025. His post posed tough questions for anyone whose job is or includes creative strategy. It received 1000+ likes and a huge amount of agreement. The essence of it was that the title is an oxymoron - that you can’t be both an expert strategist and an expert creative. Mark is rightly a purist when it comes to strategy. To him the title wrongly blurs the lines between two things which should be distinct. APG members are a broad church and whilst most aren’t creative strategists by job title, many will see creative strategy as part of their role, and naturally the APG feels some responsibility to stand up for the value creative strategy has, especially the discipline and the process, perhaps more than the title. Over the years I’ve been an account planner, brand planner, strategist, brand strategist. This job has a proud history going back to when two 70s legends, JWT’s Stephen King and BMP’s Stanley Pollitt, jointly invented account planning. The changing nature of the role, including its recent sub-variant creative strategy, tells a story of the evolution of advertising. All these titles are flawed. And whilst I’m not a creative strategist by title, his post hit a nerve for me for three reasons. First, many people who are planners or strategists like me, wear a ‘creative strategy’ hat part of the time. This part of the job is about working closely with creative people to help make impactful creative work that executes a brand’s marketing communications strategy. Is this strategy? Or creativity? It’s true the label doesn’t fit the proper delineation between strategy and execution. Second, I work closely with some brilliant people called creative strategists at Jellyfish, strategically-minded creative thinkers who are experts in getting the best out of social platforms. I see the value they bring to our clients every day. Third, because of the fantastic non-profit organisation the APG, whose committee I sit on, and whose Creative Strategy Awards I’m hugely proud to have been asked to chair in 2025. We’re not going to try to persuade Mark it’s a perfect job title, but we would like him to see, read and discuss with us the very best of this thing called ‘creative strategy’ being done by people with all sorts of job titles across the world today. All the APG asks is that you consider our invitation, Mark. Final round judging takes two days in London in July '25. We'll put aside any differences on the name, but would love to debate the merits of the work. Great post and article Rodd Chant ®© couldn't agree more: ‘The agencies that erase the more senior talent from their spreadsheets are setting themselves up for failure. They are also creating more new competitors. Many senior talent who were either laid off or left due to dissatisfaction with the agency system are setting up micro-agencies, offering clients more hands-on direct contact with senior people who are creating the work and who have enough experience to work one-to-one with clients. ‘ We are all faced with the situation: More time, hands-on using the expertise we have gathered working closer with clients = Greater relevance and better creative solutions doing what we love! 👏

The amazing use of Animations vs AI. Ai is still in it's infancy, and can do amazing things, but to get it to do exactly what you want it to is still often a mission, especially when it comes to detailed comms. But that's where animation can help present complex comms simply. Complexity, doesn't need to be boring, disengaging and yawned at. Turing that narrative around and making it engaging is the trick to simplification. Animations enable you to gain understanding, buy-in from those who scratch their heads at complex flow-charts. Animation allow you to tell stories that can't be imagined, photographed or referred to using AI...animations allow us to describe complex ideas, processes, strategies and visualise them into reality.
