Yesterday the #AzureMaps team posted a blog announcing their updated Route Range API, which can create HD isochrones representing how far can be travelled by car or HGV within a given time. I was keen to see how this could be used alongside #IconMapPro in #PowerBI, and also whether I could incorporate it as part of a report load in #PowerQuery without the need to use a python notebook. I was able to create a report that represents all of the West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service stations within West Sussex County Council and show how far can be travelled within 10 minutes from each. I added labels to quickly identify them, and a Power BI slicer to be able to zoom in to a specific station. I've published a blog post to show step by step how this was created, and shared a PowerQuery function you can re-use to use the API in your own reports. With the date for the next UK General Election having been announced yesterday, I thought I'd have a look at what it would take to create an election results map using Power BI and the forthcoming Icon Map Pro. Boost #powerbi Efficiency with #daxoptimizer Identify measures that are more expensive for RAM and CPU consumption. RAM is important for scalability; CPU determines users' wait time for a report.

Everyone, For those of you working in Power BI and embedding Power Automate flows in your reports, Microsoft has recently updated this feature so that different Power Platform environments can now be selected. This is an absolutely fantastic improvement. Previously any Power Automate flows used in your Power BI report had to be stored only in the "default" environment which is not a good practice. This also made working with other items, such as Power Platform solutions impractical (or if your teams had separate environments for development, production, etc). Ages ago, I posted an article on unpivoting subcategories using #PowerQuery. The technique is still valid and it’s one that I still teach using the same data set. But what about unpivoting subcategories in large datasets?
