Walking along the dock next to London City Airport today watching the ops team hard at work bird scaring - a vital part of any airport operators job. Today the sun has brought the fish out, and the fish have attracted the gulls. The ops team are doing a superb job keeping the birds away from the runway. I’ve thought long and hard about the problem and come up with the ultimate solution; In the same way some airports use trained birds of prey to keep the local bird population in check I can now offer the latest advancement in fish scaring technology, suitable for any airport located next to an expanse of water…guaranteed to scare off the local fish population and halve the number of sea birds attending at mealtimes… Fishmaster3000. (Prototype under development) I jest of course, sometimes we have to deal with problems as they’re presented to us…but as with all operational situations, we have to continually strive to get to the root cause of problems so we can attempt to enhance and improve. British Airways has disclosed that it shall be suspending two long time Middle Eastern routes effective 30Mar 2025 onwards as the airline struggles to come to grips with the Rolls Royce related engine issues for its Boeing 787 fleet. Daily flights to Kuwait and Bahrain shall be suspended from the on set of the IATA Summer 2025 season which has surprised many. This will leave Kuwait Airways and Gulf Air to have respective monopoly positions on their own LHR services in S25. KU currently operates 13 weekly LHR flights whilst GF does a double daily service. In 2023, the point to point (p2p) demand between KWI and LON was 274,000 pax whilst BAH came in at 115,000 each respectively. Both KU and GF have higher market share than BA on the KWI and BAH routes to/from LHR largely due to their higher number of weekly frequencies which provide passenger schedule flexibility. Neither KU nor GF should look at adding frequencies to compensate for BA's exit but rather they should increase p2p fares and yields accordingly since both do not average 85% seat factor on the LHR route year round. #britishairways #ba #bahrain #kuwait #kuwaitairways #kac #b787 #b777 #oneworld #skyteam #staralliance #gulfair #heathrow #lhr

Timing is everything as some say. Shortly after we published our paper on the opportunities for AAM services at the former Plymouth Airport, Plymouth Herald published a summary of our report. Great. Nice to see that some are reading. As it turns out Sutton Harbour Holdings had submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of the former airport on 27 Mar but was only validated on 15 May two days before we published our paper (the irony) (24/00388/MJR). We are still going through the application but it looks like it has a focus on general aviation although it does acknowledge Urban Air Mobility and eVTOLs but not Regional Air Mobility. There is no mention regarding real commercial aviation which is what could really make it economically viable and the focus of our analysis. It is noted that the third phase of the development is activated if the general aviation plan is unsuccessful. Phase 3 will proceed with the site's redevelopment for residential, commercial, and mixed-use purposes. This includes expansion of housing, key worker housing, and other commercial uses to support the strategic development needs of North Plymouth. To all our Run the Runways 2024 participants! With the start of #RTR24 only days away we wanted to firstly thank you for supporting the event, but also let you know why Run the Runways is so important. By participating in this years event you are helping Aviation Action to continue to support the #mentalhealth and #wellbeing of those working in #aviation. Aviation Action are a mental health and wellbeing #charity who were incepted during the height of the covid 19 pandemic and continue to explore new ways to support the aviation family. The money raised in this years run the runways will help evolve the Aviation Action app, allowing it to incorporate clinically governed peer to peer support with the help of MindYourself App. We believe that this non-judgemental independent mental health support will be revolutionary in aviation and unlike anything that is currently offered throughout the industry. Admittedly Run the Runways 24 has not come without its challenges. Unfortunately, we have had delays in the processing of event t shirts which has caused us a great deal of anguish, and I know will be frustrating for you, the participants. Please rest assured that we are literally working around the clock to get these out to you as soon as is humanly possible, and thankfully we are starting to see your t shirts arriving and pictures of you wearing them across social media so please stick with us. One of the things we love most about Run the Runways is the way it brings our aviation #community together. We love to see you running in your t shirts and also why each runway is special to you. This year we have teamed up with the amazing teams at AIRDAT Ltd and EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency and will be virtually running across a different European runway each day throughout May. Just to reiterate, we aren’t concerned how you do this, it may be a run on a beach or a walk through the woods, what is important is that you are motivated to get outside, destress and by the end of the month be in a better place mentally and physically than when you started. Below is the calendar for RTR 24. You will see that we start at Chania in Greece. This is because Chania is the closest airport to where Icarus supposedly took flight, therefore felt a symbolic place to start our event.
