From the Bank of England CFO Survey, published today: "A new question in the November survey asked firms about how they expect to respond to the increase in employer National Insurance contributions that was announced in the Budget. Firms were allowed to select more than one option. 59% of firms expect to lower profit margins, 54% expect to raise prices, 54% expect lower employment and 38% expect to pay lower wages than they otherwise would have done." When businesses are taxed more it is paid by a reduction in people's (including working people's) standard of living. Because an unprofitable business goes bust. Our Deloitte CFO Survey for Q3 is out: - Sentiment among UK CFOs has edged lower this quarter, but is running at above average levels - CFOs continue to see geopolitical developments as posing the greatest risk to their business, while concern about the risk of a US ‘hard landing’ has increased - CFOs expect to raise spending on digital technology and assets such as software, IT and AI, both over the next 12 months and over a five-year time frame - Finance leaders remain optimistic about AI’s ability to drive improvements in business performance.
