Another big tech company shooting themselves in the foot by making blanket policies. 🤯🔫 The same big companies have rules against outside IR35 hiring of contractors. - We won’t tax our flexible workforce properly - We won’t give you properly secure permie jobs either - We won’t offer WFH incentives So what, exactly, big tech… are you… offering? 🤔 anyone with an ounce of talent is going to have plenty of options, permanent or contract, despite the job market being somewhat volatile. A blanket policy is a blunt force tool and uses the same mantra as punishment drills in sport: to catch the odd one or two bad actors, the whole team has to do something gruelling. And this is the best that the ‘leaders’ of these massive corps can come up with? Good news is, if you’re a smaller, more agile and more sensible business who likes working with likeminded talented people.. you’ll no doubt have the right policies in place, will let people WFH, engage with contractors properly, and you’re gonna be just fine 👍

Interesting to see the whole of the UK salary averages in these surveys... Highlight: There are definite advantages to being flexible on Location with more than 50% disparity with London based averages for Lead DevOps Engineer roles not to mention a greater talent pool. CVs get you through the door and into an interview, they represent you before a hiring manager knows who you really are as a person. I don't believe that CVs are the only thing that hiring managers should be taking into consideration however, they are the initial point of contact and are therefore, super important to get right. Tech role CVs are different to most as hiring managers are very focused on Tech stack and certifications BUT they still have to feature all the important information in a concise and informative way. I believe the best layout of your CV should be 1. Your full tech stack (as this is what hiring managers want to be able to see straight away) 2. Your key skills listed in a concise way and based on your relevant recent projects. 3. Your relevant certifications. 4. Your work experience 5 . Your education. 6. A short summary of your interests. If you are going to send a speculative cv to a hiring manager then make sure it is relevant and if you are going to reach out to a candidate, make sure the role is specific to them! Do not send a CIO or a CTO an email about an Infrastructure Engineer role and do not send the CV of a Business Analyst for a Software Developer role. These are basic skills but so many recruiters get it wrong. If unsure, call the candidate and get them to talk through the CV for the avoidance of doubt! Sometimes you only get one opportunity to showcase if you know how to recruit. If you are unclear about the job description or what you are recruiting for then ask questions and more questions until you are satisfied before you start working on the requirement.
