𝐈 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐲. 😭 You must be wondering what happened and why I’m admitting to making a client cry. 👉 To celebrate the first anniversary of Social Dodo, I launched a Free Social Media Audit giveaway and one of the winners was a female SME business owner. She specialises in handcrafting innovative games and learning resources for children, to make learning fun and dynamic. 😊 I approached her audit with the same dedication as I would for any paid client, during a google meet : a comprehensive SWOT analysis, a thorough review of her content strategy along with TikTok strategies, and actionable recommendations such as influencer partnerships, personal branding and more, to boost her brand's visibility. But as we delved into the presentation, something shifted. ✨ She just confessed that she was overwhelmed, frustrated, and on the verge of giving up. Her business wasn’t growing as she hoped, and she felt defeated. In that moment, I could 100% relate to her. I have had this conversation multiple times, 𝑒𝑥𝑐𝑒𝑝𝑡 𝐼 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑒𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑒𝑛𝑑. 💡 What was supposed to be a 1-hour call turned into a 3-hour conversation, where we talked about imposter syndrome as female business owners and shared our challenges as entrepreneurs, which were surprisingly similar. And that’s when she cried. She said it was exactly what she needed to hear—and strangely enough, it was what I needed to hear too. That connection and realisation moved us both. 'Brand visibility' is a term that frightens the life out of small businesses and SME's because there is little to any KPIs or quick income return. So they battle on doing the same things and struggling to sell because people have not heard of them as yet. Their competitors sales people however are making more appointments and selling more because their business spends more to be seen, thus; their potential customer has heard of them, they have seen them before. We call this 'brand trust.' It is well known in business that you need to be 'seen'' at least seven times before a potential customer trusts you enough to even accept your initial call. So business people who are in it for the long term and have a grasp of what it takes to be successful, know that brand visibility spend is pivotal for growth. #leads4biz #brandengagement

This is the best lesson I’ve learnt after joining my family business. 👉 You don't make progress by tearing down what's there. You build on it. So picture this: Ambica's been leading the market it for 40+ years. Clearly their stuff works. So, I’ll not come in like a wrecking ball, but to figure out how to make 'good' even better. Here's what I'm learning: • If it ain't broke, don't fix it (but maybe give it a tune-up) • Baby steps are still steps forward • Shut up and listen (seriously, it helps) • Get the team fired up about improvements It hit me - innovation isn't only about reinventing the wheel. Sometimes, it’s about upgrading the engine without changing the car. So I'm trying to walk this tightrope: giving a nod to what's worked before, while still pushing us forward. It's tricky, but hey, that's what makes it fun, right? Bottom line: This business has been around longer than some of us have been alive. You don't mess with that kind of success - you learn from it. A harsh truth: the world is not created equally!…And therefore some of us have to think more strategically and resourcefully about funding than others 🫡 As a female and minority founder I’ve learnt the hard way to avoid TechCrunch stories and start navigating the journey in a way that works for me. Some examples: 💰Focussing on grants - At Bloomful we’ve built a whole grant workstream. From Kwanda to Innovate UK and others, we’ve progressively learnt how to win, and it’s been game changing. 🏆Entering competitions - I’ve put time and effort into optimising my pitch, winning 1000’s in prize money from the likes of KPMG, MSDUK and Google. And there’s no better money than free money! ✂️Staying Lean - Cutting cash flow and keeping things sustainable is critical. This also means staying organised with money and making timely decisions. 🙅🏾‍♀️Saying no to VC meetings - I understand relationship building, but I’m also pragmatic. So to protect my time and sanity, I now say no or “not right now” to most VC outreach. 🚴🏾‍♀️Staying in my lane - because when you focus on other’s journey too much, yours becomes so much harder! There’s a level of resourcefulness and critical thinking that I didn’t even know I needed to keep this ship sailing. It’s so important to figure out how to navigate things creatively.
