I wrote a playbook of tactics for pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants that will deliver incremental sales, improve guest satisfaction and increase engagement - resulting in being mentioned in socials more often. They also help to demonstrate how you can grow a drinks brand with effectively zero spend. Rather than sit on them, or, wait until we're in a meeting together, I've decided to start sharing my ideas. Next up in the series, creating a Bloody Weekend! I partnered up with one of Brighton's best cafes, Starfish & Coffee, for this one. On the food side, there were 3 weekend specials, including an epic take on Turkish Eggs (Bloody Eggs: preserved lemon & chilli yoghurt, Bloody Bens Bloody Mary Mix marinated heritage tomatoes, poached eggs, bacon crumbs, pangratto and spiced oil) and on the drinks side, a Bloody Mary menu with 7 variations. With these special menus, we invited local foodie influencers (keeping it local means the audience is super relevant and much more likely to visit) and this resulted in numerous social mentions, including 3 reels, like the one below from @aylaeats on Insta, https://lnkd.in/eVmaatFH which combined have generated over 10,000 views and counting. Prior to this, with Starfish not being a glitzy new opening and more of an established legacy venue, they had been struggling to get the attention of the local foodie influencers - changing this story was one of the key objectives of the Bloody Weekend. And, with them all giving glowing reviews, it felt like mission accomplished! I'll be sharing more ideas and tactics soon - do feel free to use them or to iterate on them. "Thanks for everything, but we have a new general manager that's going to take over the socials" 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥 Much like senior marketing roles with a wage of 25k per annum, a general manager simply shouldn't be taking on the responsibilities of an entire other role (let alone a department) for the same 😅 This was my reality 2 days home from the hospital after giving birth and it's definitely my biggest struggle with freelancing at the moment. I'm fighting tooth and nail to prove my worth, to get businesses to not only understand their socials but the worth behind it, and truthfully, it isn't all sunshine and rainbows at the moment as much as I wish it was 🌈 But, in true silver lining fashion, we've been able to switch our focus to improving other areas of the business, including: ➡ client onboarding (and offboarding) ➡ monthly reporting ➡ introducing a brand new client portal to streamline our work even more ➡ putting a focus back into our own socials ➡ winning some one-off projects that have opened doors for us already Just got to keep going (and wish that the Sun returns for some outdoor working ☀️)

Just enough days left in the year to start a new business! And, this time, it's an event biz, with the super talented Lizzy Kaplan. When I started my growth agency for food, drink and hospitality businesses, On A Plate Growth Agency, I realised something. Whilst there's a brilliant networking scene in my home town of Brighton, there aren't any events dedicated to those in the food, drink and hospo industry. So, I thought, who to talk to about this? I instantly thought of Lizzy, who is the co-founder of the Brighton Natural Wine Fair and an events consultant. Turns out, she had discovered the same thing. And, in fact, when she had moved to the city, she had started making notes about creating a series of events to fill this gap. Great minds and all that... So, we're excited to officially launch Best Before Events and announce our debut event: All You Can Forecast - Food, Drink + Hospitality Outlook 2025 It's taking place at Projects, a beautiful co-working space in the Lanes, on Nile Street. Running from 12-2.30pm There will be a brilliant panel, who will explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the industry in 2025 - covering everything from consumer shifts to emerging trends and innovation. - Ruth Fittock, managing parter at Tomorrow Brands - Nicole Compen, founder of raye the store - Angus J., co-founder of storekit - Terri Mercieca, founder of Happy Endings - Tom Zahir, founder and chef of Decatur With Oliver Russell, Brighton resident and brand strategist, taking on the role of panel moderator. And then there will be lunch, prepared by one of Brighton's best chefs, Sam Lambert, as he showcases seasonal Sussex produce.
