I failed...... massively I was due to host my first webinar, I spent hours preparing it and had quite a few people signed up for it. I was even writing a post in my head to say how amazing it was! I logged on but my guests couldn't, links weren't working, the webinar details hadn't linked to their calendars - nightmare. Sure I can put together a basic website but because I don't know how it works I didn't check that the event details went out to the guests properly. When you are freelance you don't have the back up of an IT department or someone in the office who can show you how to do it! Hopefully those that signed up last time will be able to make the rescheduled time and I have tested it and the links work and can be added to your calendar so take a look below to sign up. I’ve been asked for portfolio advice and feedback more than ever since returning to freelance recruitment, and it's tough to respond to everyone (I wish I could!) Day 8 of running 5k every day for 50 days to raise money for Radical Recruit✔️ We’ve hit the £5k mark!🥳 A huge thanks to everyone who has already donated. For perspective, £5k pays for a month of employability support for 20 people - or a years’ worth of support for 1-2 people. Note to self: Must eat better, sleep better and hydrate better. For someone who is more Shetland pony than racehorse, 8 days straight of running 5k is feeling like a huge achievement already and, whilst also doubting if I’ve got 50 days in me, I’m more determined than ever to get through the whole thing. Recruitments broken apparently! According to someone whose NEVER done it. Yet, what they’re positioning is basically an RPO model. Something in my opinion they should of appointed Paul Sharpe as he genuinely gets it rather than a social media influencer. They’re talking about collecting data - None of us thought of that. Revolutionary mate. Didn’t 30 hours a week recruiting. Fuck me, did you ever speak to anyone in your team? Actually, this is also someone who publicly screams about retention of staff and well-being when in actual fact has a poor retention rate and is emailing staff at 10pm at night and over weekends. You may have a great Personal Brand but this doesn’t give you the right to complete bash an entire industry where people have actually spent times working on their expertise. You may have hired internally, but trust me it’s very ticking different on this side. In fact, what your saying is innovating already exists. Recruitment isn’t something you can reinvent and throw tech at it and think you’ve changed the game. Get fucked have you!

We're proud to be celebrating National Inclusion Week here at our Skills and Learning Business! I sometimes worry terms like 'Diversity' and 'Inclusion' have become buzzwords that are no longer backed by key objectives that many Senior Leaders prioritize in their businesses. So to kick off this week, I want to talk about how Inclusion makes teams work better. When I think of a high functioning, impressive, successful workplace, I think of my team at Skills. Of course, the core message of our business is to promote inclusivity and Skills-Based Hiring to address our clients' most acute needs. But on another level, I think what I value most about working with my colleagues is that we come from entirely different backgrounds and use those differences to help each other work better together. We have had to learn each other's strengths and weaknesses and work closely despite having very different roles. But in turn, this has helped us to remain focused and united in a collective effort to be incredible and do incredible things together. To leverage each others' strengths where we may fall short. The work environment we've built helps us to feel safe to make mistakes, and lean on each other when we need to. It helps us to trust each other and feel more confident in our collective efforts. We respect each other's different ways of working and can function autonomously while still contributing to our larger business objectives. We champion and empower each other, shouting about each others successes and providing constructive feedback in the spirit of helping each other grow. To me, inclusivity is about respect for where your colleagues have been and were you can take your team together. It's about being united, and proud of your differences because that's what makes you a stronger unit. I think that's a value-add to any business, and I'm glad we have weeks like this to celebrate it! #nationalinclusionweek

Being a 'Specialist Recruiter' is not a new concept, everyone has a niche now. But, if you genuinely know the space you support.....and can build trust and credibility in your market over the phone - why not do that at scale? I spoke to a client last month who had 27,000 1st connections specific to the market they support struggling for new client relationships. What was their BD strategy? Over a month emailing a list of 2500 cold contacts from ZoomInfo using a 4 stage email campaign....you know the ones. Responses so far....Zero. What were they doing on LinkedIn to engage what is a fairly hefty audience....nothing........in fact they had never posted anything, ever. Based on user stats over 20,000 of that same Recruiters connections visit LinkedIn at least once a week for 7.5 minutes on average. You can communicate with them everyday through content. And they come voluntarily - Its a completely different communication strategy . If they spent some time talking about whats happening in their market right now....building some credibility and trust they could reach 8x more than the cold list off of ZoomInfo in a shorter period. If only 1% of that audience ask the recruiter for help thats 200 enquiries a week! So again.... if you rate yourself in your niche. Why are you waiting for that connected call, or email response to give yourself the chance of standing out?

And I've got a chance for someone who can get to Bristol (or lives in Bristol) to share that impact with me and the FULL CIRCLE @DOCKLANDS LTD team. One of my strategic missions for FCD is to deliver free, impactful and life-changing training to our community (450 young people, their families and the wider community within the Ashley Ward and Bristol) This is non-funded, non-certificated real-world training on things that could, and probably will, make an impact on 100s of people, and this impact will be lasting. I sat at a table last night with 11 other motivated, passionate and caring people who all had stories to tell about the 43 years FCD has done its work (albeit more recent for some). I have stories of my grandmother turning up in a van to help move people into houses, taking young people camping for the first time, and delivering well-being conversations that give people hope spanning 43 years, alongside everyone else who has ever given time to FULL CIRCLE @DOCKLANDS LTD So if you are: Creative and innovative with your delivery style Have life experience to be able to contextualise learning resources to a diverse student base across many cultures Organised and thorough in your work A pastoral attitude towards all Have taught, can teach, or wants to teach across key skills (think initially Functional Skills English, Maths and Digital) You want: Freedom to create materials and resources that are not bound to any guidelines Flexibility in delivery and timetables A workplace that will allow your creativity to thrive To really want to change peoples lives and be innovative in the way you do it. Our first ideas for sessions/courses look like: CV Writing, Cover Letter Design and Applying to Jobs Online Interview Tips, Tricks and Careers Advice for ace your next role. Digital Age - Paying your bills online, registering and managing an email and managing social media to communicate with friends and family, including being safe online. Financial Skills - A personal budget, credit score, and dealing with debts/investments. I don't want someone who has materials already, I want someone to take the voice of our community and deliver sessions in a language they can understand that is not a pass/fail, but merely a journey to a better outcome. You can write your own job description beyond this point, and this has a potential, provided the pilot goes well to become a full time role.
