The Pharmacovigilance Inspection Metrics Report for April 2021 – March 2022 reveals that the MHRA's compliance team conducted 32 inspections of 30 marketing authorization holders, uncovering 6 critical, 72 major, and 91 minor findings during that period. We are delighted to introduce you to Rex VanHorn, MBA, MSAI in Issue 8 of the Data & AI Magazine. Rex's distinguished career at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, where he specialises in automation and advanced applications, exemplifies dedication and expertise in the field. Rex Vanhorn's professional journey spans over 25 years within the pharmaceutical industry. His educational background is notable, having initially obtained a bachelor's degree in Spanish, followed by an MBA in Finance, and more recently an MSc in Artificial Intelligence. Currently, Rex is furthering his scholarly pursuits by undertaking a PhD at the University of Georgia, whilst also maintaining a fulfilling family life with his wife and four children. In 2022, our organisation was challenged to THE TRENDING TOOL find an innovative way to find existing trends in our Quality data. After running through the usual statistical suspects – think regression analysis and business intelligence dashboards – we were encouraged to think bigger. The system should be able to group similar, existing records together regardless of who entered them, where they were entered, and the language in which they were entered. Just as importantly, the system must be able to evaluate a new record and predict the type of trend it might fall into, as well as offer a potential path towards investigation and resolution. And of course, the application also needed to be compliant with the regulatory rules for applications assisting with low-risk processes in the pharmaceutical manufacturing space (i.e., GxP applications). The Trending Tool (TT) is backwards-facing and looks over the sea of existing information, and clusters them into groups by the type of record they represent. These collections of records are then the trends. There are four main processes that underpin the Trending Tool: 1. The records are queried from the system. 2. The queried records are translated into English. 3. The records are vectorised and clustered using HDBSCAN. 4. The records are then presented for visualisation.
