Scaling for success is near impossible without the right people. Attracting the right people is near impossible if you have a poor reputation in the market. I've spoken with many folk about opportunities where unfortunately, reputation has proceeded itself and they have obtained a negative name by virtue of the experience people have had during interview processes with them. I've consulted dozens of startup leaders on HOW to attract the right people, and I always kick off with the same message - "When recruiting, do the basics really well, and treat people with courtesy & respect." We are in a small market, and if you drag people through drawn out interview processes only to ghost them, word spreads. In some circumstances, maybe other aspects of your business (funding, investors, compelling product, etc) are so attractive it doesn't matter, but a negative experience always leaves a sour taste. Protect your employer brand. Besides it being the right thing to do, it will pay dividends in the long run - it will give you a competitive advantage when attracting talent.

In Q2 of this year in the UK the average Perm Consultant made 4 placements and the average Temp Consultant made 6 placements. (UK) When we looked at the consultants at the Top 5 agencies on Recruiter Insider for Candidate Experience, we discovered that: 🚀 the average Perm Consultant there made 5 placements 🚀 the average Temp Consultant made 10 placements. In Q2 alone, the agencies with the highest candidate experience scores made 1 extra Perm placement per consultant and an 4 extra temp placements per consultant. Highlighting as always the impact candidate experience has on your placement numbers. The data doesn’t lie, an improved candidate experience means more placements. What should you be earning based on your billings? Based on your personal billings, the simplest way to answer the above is; As an OTE you should be earning about a 1/3 of what you bill. Billings v's OTE  Billing £150,000 = £50,000 OTE Billing £180,000 = £60,00 OTE Billing £210,000 = £70,000 OTE Billing £300,000 = £100,000 OTE Billing £450,000 = £150,000 OTE Commission structures, bonus's, base salaries, benefits and packages all vary from business to business and across the industry. But as a general rule your OTE should be about 1/3 of what you bill. If you're seeing less than 30% of what you bill as an annual OTE, generally you are earning less than industry average. If you're seeing 35% or more of what you bill, you're being rewarded above average and well based on your billings and OTE. #recruitment #billings #earnings #OTE

B2B sales = where the progression and reward is as a salesperson If you’re serious about your sales career then you’ll need this experience. Particularly if you want to break into tech sales. If you have any cold outreach, prospecting or outbound calling on your CV from a B2B environment then use it. That’s transferable. And if you don’t, then it might be worth considering other B2B sales roles as a stepping stone. Sometimes it’s better to earn and learn. Account Management vs New Business - Let's talk about it.   I have spoken to some incredible account management focused salespeople recently, but I have also spoken to a fair few individuals who are expecting to come into an account base instantly with little to absolutely no new business involved. Almost to be handed accounts.   My two pence.   If you're coming into a business who are stretched, using one AM to cover a very large customer base and need the ability to separate the patch to become closer with existing customers, then absolutely! You want someone who has a track record of increasing revenue with existing accounts, not an out and out new business hunter who is more focused on acquisition than existing business. Play to people's strengths!   However, if you're joining a service provider or reseller, where the business is set up in a way where you "keep what you catch", coming in and expecting accounts isn't going to work. A lot of the people within the business are only generating said numbers due to the sheer graft of going from £0-£20-30K Profit a month! Also, view it from another standpoint - If you were doing great, but was told someone is joining the business and needs accounts for you to hand over, accounts that you have worked incredibly hard on, you'd feel a bit hard done by to say the least....   That's my thoughts. Definitely a need for both but also a reality check needed for some peoples expectations too! Don't expect to be given a base in any role unless stated, go in there with the mindset that you will make sh*t happen and if you get given anything along the way, then that's a bonus!   Keen to hear other people’s thoughts?

Hiring a sales-focused BDM for your agency is a big move. You can either go down the junior route or go with the finished article- both have their merits and obviously are at different price points. My advice is to speak to both- In sales so much comes down to attitude and that person with 2 years of experience could in a few years be one of the best investments you've made as a business. If you are open to looking at the cv of someone with a couple of years Agency Sales experience that has a great attitude then give Joe a shout. #creativenatives

❓... Would you pay €170,000 (€340,000 OTE) for an individual contributor salesperson? I ask because we recently placed the highest paid individual contributor we have hired in 2B Talent Solutions history – earning that exact package. No doubt this number would scare a lot of companies – how could you justify such a high salary/package? ⚡ BUT - this particular candidate had a track record of closing €3m+ revenue each of the last 4 years - completely self-sufficient and very happy being an IC for the rest of their career (one of very few willing to do this). When you stack it up like that, it becomes a no-brainer: pay €340,000 for a €3m return (likely upwards of €400,000 when you factor in kickers – but still makes great financial sense). The thing is though, that for most companies, this isn’t even a consideration paying that level of salary – so they immediately discount themselves from exposure to that level of candidate. 💭 Would love to know what people think – times are changing, inflation is real – and so will we see more of this in the next couple years? Cloudcat Recruitment's series on common mistakes made by SDRs continues. Every mistake listed is one to keep in mind, as they have been suggest by highly successful SDRs and Sales Leaders who I have spoken to over the last few years. Using AI is great, and mastering its usage makes you extremely efficient. The majority of my network is involved in selling or utilising artificial intelligence! But using it blindly is akin to trying to sell to a prospect in a monotonous, under-researched and dry tone.
