Security…it’s the hot new topic on the cocktail circuit. Well not really, but it’s progressively keeping more CIO’s CDO’s, CMO’s, all the C’s really, up at night. For those of us designing and developing digital products and experiences with containers of customer data, this is so important. James Doyle’s breakdown of security principles is a worthy read. Plainly worded, this post is a good primer of what you should expect in terms of principles and practices during product development. Yes, it’s the shallow end of a very deep pond, but if you’re not already in these waters, I’d suggest you start exploring.

A greater use of generative AI in the public sector could significantly offset current pressures, creating up to £38 billion a year in annual savings by 2030 for the UK while transforming our public services, according to Public First’s latest report.  💸 💪 Earlier today, I spoke at the Google Cloud Public Sector Summit UK and discussed how the UK can seize this opportunity; Generative AI could support doctors, teachers and police across the country, by making working practices more effective and automating repetitive, bureaucratic tasks, transforming the nation’s key services.💡 Saving enough time for:  🏥 An extra 3.7 million GP appointments 🧑‍🎓 A 16% increase in the teacher to student ratio, 👮Freeing up the equivalent of over 160,000 police officers AI has the potential to help public sector workers in a variety of fields to automate a third of their daily public sector tasks such as record management and data processing, giving them more time to focus on the parts of their jobs they enjoy the most. We understand that unlocking this potential isn’t something that can be done alone — it’s about working together. Good to see Department for Science, Innovation and Technology publish the next iteration of the UK's ID framework today, the 'Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework' (or 'DIATF') - this one is the 'gamma' version, or 'pre-release' version before the 'live' version next year, to support the Data (Usage and Access) bill going live. One step closer to digital ID being a legal 'thing' in the UK! #digitalID #progress

Yesterday, Dave and Dharmesh presented at the FinTech Futures event Banking Tech Insights. They kicked off proceedings with a presentation - Limitless. Those with sharp memories may remember a post of mine from last year highlighting London as the tech capital of the world. So it’s no surprise to see that its tech scene is continuing to thrive! 🚀 To break it down, over 7,200 tech companies were incorporated into London in Q1 of 2024 - up an impressive 16% from last year. And, whilst the capital’s popularity is soaring, the entire country is also experiencing an increase in the number of tech businesses; an incredible 13,802 organisations registered as limited companies in Q1. These figures are helping paint a clear picture of what the future of the UK’s tech sector will look like, and things are looking promising. I’m really excited to see how a stronger tech presence across the entire country will fuel innovation in our sector.
