Choosing PAYE vs Umbrella: Which is Right for You? 🌟 Are you working on a temporary basis and trying to figure out whether to go with PAYE or an umbrella company? You're not alone! Let's break it down simply. PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is straightforward. Taxes, National Insurance, and pensions come out of your earnings automatically. This reduces your admin and keeps things simple, but can sometimes mean a larger tax bill, specifically if you're working multiple roles at one time, compared to other methods. On the other hand, an umbrella company essentially employs you but allows you some of the benefits of contracting. They handle all your taxes and contributions, but do charge a fee. It's a great middle-ground if you want minimal hassle and is especially beneficial if you're planning on contracting for a long period of time or if you're working multiple temporary roles at once. Nonetheless, it's crucial to understand all the costs and the breakdown of deductions involved. In Q2 of this year in the UK the average Perm Consultant made 4 placements and the average Temp Consultant made 6 placements. (UK) When we looked at the consultants at the Top 5 agencies on Recruiter Insider for Candidate Experience, we discovered that: 🚀 the average Perm Consultant there made 5 placements 🚀 the average Temp Consultant made 10 placements. In Q2 alone, the agencies with the highest candidate experience scores made 1 extra Perm placement per consultant and an 4 extra temp placements per consultant. Highlighting as always the impact candidate experience has on your placement numbers. The data doesn’t lie, an improved candidate experience means more placements. Do Practice Accountants Need to be Qualified to Reach the Top? Yes…but, not always 🤔 Whilst holding the ACA/ACCA qualification undoubtedly sets a standard of expertise, exceptions exist where other qualities can override this. 💥 But, it is becoming rarer. Many clients will not consider a candidate for some of the top positions if they are not qualified. 👀 It's the first cut they make. But, while qualifications are often a prerequisite for success, it's crucial to recognize that they don't always guarantee excellence. 💥 Sometimes, a blend of commercial acumen, technical prowess, and exceptional client relationship skills can outweigh any formal qualification. 💥 While qualifications provide a solid foundation, they are just one piece of the puzzle. As professionals, we must embrace a holistic perspective that values both traditional credentials and the unique strengths individuals bring to the table.

If you have a client who is thinking about claiming R&D tax relief listen up. HMRC must be notified if a company is going to claim R&D tax. The issue is that the notification must be submitted within 6 months of the company’s year end. The first batch of pre-notifications are due by the end of September. This will generally be for claims with an accounting period starting 1 April 2023 with a March 2024 year end. If you have a client looking at claiming R&D tax relief, it's better to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later. I am expecting a lot of companies to miss their pre-notification deadline. Missing the deadline could mean losing out on valuable relief, so don’t delay!

📈 Key Conclusions from KPMG & Recruitment & Employment Confederation Aug Report: 💹 Market Adjustments Continue- perm placements on the whole are declining while temp roles remain resilient.
