Coupled with AI tooling and potentially more no-code platforms evolving, where do you see the role of a 3D developer in the near future? Exploring with a little more control, and stitching tools together. Low fidelity card model to AI output placed in an environment. - Lo-fi card model made by me - Cut out and composed etc in Photoshop. - Images of painted wooden robots created in Invoke using the Global Structure & Regional Guidance tools (...Midjourney for the reference image) - Backgrounds added using Magnific AI - Dream Machine to add some motion... Arguably there are more linear workflows, but enjoying time spent learning and getting to grips with new tools/ features. Starting with card models feels nice. And I should probably apply this to something other than robots (...maybe a backpack, or a chair next?) #generativeai #productdesign

So last week I posted about 3D printing in the Film & TV Industry. It's fascinating to see what different industries actually use 3D printing and it's various forms.   Another one I find fascinating is the Biking industry (I'm talking push bikes) 🚲   For example the company Giant Bicycles actually created 3D printed Saddle seats, not just for prototyping either but the finished design. To create this they are using a powdered nylon through a process called SLS ( Selective Laser Sintering) The laser reacts with the powder and creates a final product that mimics nylon. ( the same method used to make Thor's hammer) I have also seen 3D printed bikes become something too. Carbon-fibre being a popular choice in the way of printing due it's lightweight properties. 🚵‍♂️ Safe to say it's a very common method to prototype if anything! My husband is an avid mountain biker so the 3D Printers in our house have become useful more than once to print some form of a part or tool in order to help fix/upgrade the bike! FAB has been a disaster since launch. Many missing features, loss of sales, loss of files, loss of community interaction, lack of statistics and analytics. FAB has hurt the public image of RoughEdge and countless of other smaller creators. The integration with Sketchfab has flooded FAB with copyrighted material, stolen assets, bloatware, and AI-generated "art." This lack of moderation not only dilutes the quality of offerings but also creates legal and ethical concerns. Legitimate developers are finding their work overshadowed by these low-effort or stolen assets, further diminishing their sales and discouraging participation. We need to urge Epic Games to reinstate the Unreal Engine Marketplace or substantially reform the FAB platform. Want to accelerate prototyping? Try ordering several prototypes in one! That's expensive, you say? Not if you 'overload' one file with variety of features... Order one printed sample to test many different details. Split the body into several regions to see how finishes/textures would look. Last week's budget offers great news for the UK VFX market. The government has identified the creative industries as one of eight growth-driving sectors within its Industrial Strategy. Moreover, that AI will be a big part of that. Earlier plans to exclude AI from the tax relief have been scrapped after consultation with the industry. Firstly, it didn’t make sense for the government to pour funding into AI development on one side while, on the other, disincentivizing UK businesses from exploiting them through the tax credits scheme. And secondly, practically speaking it’d be impossible to audit. AI is weaved into the creative process, and has been for many years. So trying to pick them apart would be a whole process by itself. I’m excited for this. The government has made a great choice, and is rewarding those willing to take AI by the hand and take the jump. #VFX #AI

Solving your 3-Dimensional design problems… So, you have a themed event or show to stage at an expo hall or within your company premises. Maybe in this case a workshop show on Robotics for instance? (as the MK:U did earlier this year) You’ve done all the usual marketing stuff to make it a successful event, Like updating your website news, Posted it on your LinkedIn and other social media platforms, Emailed all your contacts, and old-school stuff like printing flyers, distributed at your last exhibition. Maybe you should try something a bit more up-to-date, memorable and fun, something to really stand out from the usual marketing stuff? Interactive marketing using a QR code and your customer's own phones might be the answer. (QR code or link could also have been included in your usual marketing channels) You don’t really need a high ticket agency getting involved at short notice, and anyway, most are really slow to adopt new tech marketing techniques like this. After scanning the code a fun and informative AR experience pops up on your phone while you are sitting at your desk or even on a train heading towards the show. It could be just an animated message. Or 3D avatars in a music experience. Even a short quiz, or all of the above! You accept the Adobe quick WebXR protocol download, point your phone at a flat surface, follow the simple screen prompts, and your phone's Augmented Reality experience unfolds. (this QR Code AR experience works on iPhone and most modern Android phones, touch the screen for interactions) It’s fun, informative, and memorable and you and your company look cutting-edge with a human side, especially if you include humour, a game or even emotionally charged music. Proper focus is critical for all-day wearable glasses. If you're driving, you want the world to be in focus, not a heads-up display that might be focused at 1-2m away. When you're walking down the street, AR effects could be planted anywhere from arms reach to blocks away, and the world and graphics should always match. Power and heat are also critical. It can't feel hot, so energy is limited to milliwatts. The glasses may be off a lot of the time. With optical-see-through (OST) the natural photons come for free in both directions (showing your eyes and seeing the world). Video-pass-through (VPT) requires constant power to see anything. Dimming is critical too, unless you can produce more light than the sun reflects off outdoor objects. In terms of max light, we already wear sunglasses for sunlight that's too bright for comfort. For example, if you look at a wall that's half-sun-lit / half shadow, the virtual stuff must work as well in both cases. For best results, we need both additive and subtractive displays. And don't forget fashion, fit, and comfort. Glasses for the masses must fit many different head/brow/nose sizes, shapes and styles, and must accommodate your normal prescription perfectly. They can't weigh much more than normal eyewear. Ideally, we can add back a superpower in re-focusing the real world near or far based on gaze too. That by itself would make a billion dollar product even without AI or most AR features.
