Creed Foodservice Ltd launches ‘UK’s first ever Brain Food’ school menu The wholesaler has partnered with a dietitian Juliette Kellow to launch the ‘UK’s first ever Brain Food’ 🧠 school menu, as research revealed two thirds (64%) of parents worry about their child’s eating habits at secondary school. New research by the wholesaler found an overwhelming majority of parents (96%) say they would welcome their child’s school offering a menu that provides dishes rich in nutrients to support brain function. This sentiment was shared by 76% of those who work in state secondary schools. Just 14% of parents say their child always eats well at school. This is resulting in significant missed revenue opportunities for state schools, as nearly three quarters (72%) of parents whose children take a packed lunch say they would encourage their child to buy lunch from school more often if there were more nutritious options on the menu. Bringing a 14th straight month of decline, the CGA and Prestige Purchasing Foodservice Price Index reveals that year-on-year inflation in foodservice eased to 2.8% in August 2024. While prices continue to stabilise after a prolonged period of aggressive inflation the report also reveals a 0.5% month-on-month increase in prices across the basket of goods—a third consecutive rise. Inflation as measured by the CGA Prestige Foodservice Price Index (FPI) fell below 10% in March for the first time in two years, following the largest month-on-month decline ever recorded by the Index of 1.4%. BREAKING: Some of the UK’s largest food companies have joined us in sending a letter to the UK Government calling for a phase-out of cages for laying hens. Aldi UK, The Big Table Group, Co-op, Greggs, Mitchells & Butlers PLC, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer and Waitrose & Partners have all signed the open letter, sending a strong message to the Government that action must be taken to support the industry in transitioning away from cages towards higher welfare systems. To #EndTheCageAge once and for all we need legislation to immediately ban the installation of new caged systems and a phase out of existing cage systems for egg-laying hens.
