    Following the introduction of new legislation changes by HMRC, Haines Watts (SEM) have been pro-actively working to ensure clients are compliant under the Revenue’s new scheme. I have played a key role in helping this progress by:

    * Identifying the best time to convert client based on either their VAT quarters or year-end
    * Upskilling by completing certifications with both Quickbooks Online and Xero in order to best advise and help clients moving to the most appropriate software for…

    Following the introduction of new legislation changes by HMRC, Haines Watts (SEM) have been pro-actively working to ensure clients are compliant under the Revenue’s new scheme. I have played a key role in helping this progress by:

    * Identifying the best time to convert client based on either their VAT quarters or year-end
    * Upskilling by completing certifications with both Quickbooks Online and Xero in order to best advise and help clients moving to the most appropriate software for them.
    * Calculating and posting opening balance adjustments to the new compliant software
    * Posting historic data where necessary to help the transition to new softwares happen smoothly
    * Training clients to use software like Xero at both their own establishments, in house at our office and remotely through email support - educating them in a variety of skills from how to post the basic transactions of sales and purchase invoices, expenses and reconciling the bank feeds to more complex training such as payroll features.
    * Creating links to the new Government Gateway portal and filing MTD compliant returns in the relevant quarters for compliance

  • VAT Returns

    - Present

    Producing and reviewing the quarterly VAT returns for within 5 - 15 clients every month in a variety of industries and occupations from consultancy and construction to architecture and retail shops. This involves me having to:

    * Work to a designated deadline
    * Have strong client communication skills in both receiving the right information, for explaining the return to clients and ensuring they pay the correct amount on time.
    * Calculating all the figures for the relevant VAT…

    Producing and reviewing the quarterly VAT returns for within 5 - 15 clients every month in a variety of industries and occupations from consultancy and construction to architecture and retail shops. This involves me having to:

    * Work to a designated deadline
    * Have strong client communication skills in both receiving the right information, for explaining the return to clients and ensuring they pay the correct amount on time.
    * Calculating all the figures for the relevant VAT boxes (including identifying European transactions for the relevant EC sales lists)
    * Preparing the return on either cash or accruals basis depending on the client
    - Ensuring receivables and payables are reconciled accordingly with each method.

    I assist with the monthly and quarterly bookkeeping for a small portfolio of clients, which involves the completion of some to all of the following tasks:

    * Contacting clients on a regular basis
    * Payables and receivables reconciliation

    * Posting summaries, reconciliations and journals to our office preferred software IRIS accounts production
    * Finalising working papers to include a complete and clear profit and loss analysis for each account code - with clear adjustments for any…

    Beginning as an office junior my original role focused on scheduling the bank statements, sales and purchase invoices manually on Excel for both limited companies, sole trader and partnership accounts and has progressed slowly to include:

    * Posting summaries, reconciliations and journals to our office preferred software IRIS accounts production
    * Finalising working papers to include a complete and clear profit and loss analysis for each account code - with clear adjustments for any mispostings
    * Producing a clear Directors Loan/Current Account schedule (or any drawings taken by sole traders) for agreement when any transactions have occurred within the company.
    * Ensuring any fixed assets have been correctly accounted for and appropriately depreciated over their useful life
    * Reconciling the VAT and wages (where relevant) to what should have been paid and accounted for to what was actually paid and accounted for per HMRC (and adjusting accordingly in future returns).
    * Completing corporation tax adjustments to the accounts
    * Revising draft accounts following queries to the client being answered
    * Ensuring the working papers are compliant and electronically saved with all relevant documentation
