A win for Moneybox and the equity crowdfunding market 🎉 Last week, Moneybox announced closing a combined investment of c.£70M and a £550 million valuation - an 84% increase since their Series D in May 2022. 🔄 Moneybox’s latest secondary share sale will allow their strong shareholder community of 35,000 to sell up to 10% of their holdings 📈 (many of whom joined Moneybox's journey through equity crowdfunding platforms like Crowdcube). Investors will be eligible to sell 10% of their shareholding (rounded up to the nearest share) at a share price of £10.08. This represents a substantial increase from the Series D valuation of £5.58 and the Series C valuation of £3.50. This liquidity event marks a significant win for early CSF investors. FUTURE PROOFING YOUR BUSINESS I’m currently seeing businesses who have built a successful position in the market place, falling for the ‘green grass syndrome’! To their peril and amazement they find their clients now being attacked by competitors based solely on PRICE. In their lust for market share and growth, it appears that they have been guilty of not ‘staying close to their clients or customers’; one of the most critical attributes of all sustainable and successful businesses and companies. So if you’re experiencing threats to your business now from your competitors, check your strategy and I’m sure you’ll find that your business development managers and sales representatives have been too focused on gaining new clients at the expense of staying close to your existing customers. Research says it ‘costs’ 5 to 6 times more to get new customers and clients than it does to keep existing ones. Building close client relationships is an investment not a cost and senior management must see this and take action to future proof the business. Otherwise they will suffer the ‘green grass syndrome’ and lose customers and clients to their competitors.

Here are eight key questions you can expect from potential acquirers: 1) Why do you want to sell your business? This tricky question probes your reasons for selling, especially if your business has a bright future. 2) What is your cost per new customer acquired? Acquirers want to know if you have a predictable, economical, and scalable way to find new customers. 3) What is your market penetration rate? They’re assessing future growth potential and understanding how much of the market remains untapped. 4) Who are the critical members of your team? Acquirers need to identify key team members to retain and motivate post-purchase. 5) Who buys what you sell? Strategic buyers seek synergies with their products or services. Knowing your customer demographics helps them assess the fit. 6) How do you make what you sell? They’re evaluating the uniqueness of your production process and whether it relies on proprietary systems or key individuals. 7) What makes your product truly unique? Acquirers are determining your competitive moat and protections against future competitors. 8) Can you describe your back-office setup? They’ll look at your bookkeeping, billing software, payment processes, and supplier management for integration ease. Prepare thoroughly for these questions to confidently present your business to potential buyers. This list isn’t exhaustive, but it’s a solid start to get you ready for the hot seat. Going full time on yourself? 👉As August approaches, anyone wanting to learn can follow as I help some new founders get their dreams off the ground. It’s not about buying anything, everything they use will be free resources to get to their first sales. It’s not about what they already know, they will learn how to hire contractors and outsource. It’s not about the tools they know, all they have to do is show up every day with an idea of their own. Pay close attention to Jorge Abalo, he is building something he believes in. Skills I will be teaching out in the open to founders in the same journey: 1. How to find clients who can afford you who love your services 2. How to rapidly hire if you close a larger contract than what you are used to 3. How to aggressively drive your income to livable wages (takes a VERY long time and consistent work) If you are going full time on yourself - you don’t have time to waste. The cheesy statement stands. “Fortune favors the bold.” So I’m going to move at a pace that I would move out if I were in dire need to replace an income as an example of what that looks like. In August I will drop examples of how I would run a new company to survive off of like what I had to go through in 2005 then again in 2017. At times in life when I had trouble finding work, I decided to bet on myself. In 2017 it became a permanent decision to keep it that way. Going full time means you are betting on yourself. No one is coming to save you. All you have to lean on is any form of faith you possess and your will. Something has to fuel you if going full time is going to work. I don’t do life coaching, I mostly build and deliver compute related assets through a cloud native company called Cloud Underground. I tried hosting paid services for founders and decided giving founders free business building resources makes more sense. I mostly teach ownership techniques for asset developers (especially anything related to aerospace and manufacturing). Most of my own clients are enterprise, so hopefully sharing things that helped me once upon a time is helpful for folks. I have no clue what works for you and your business. What I can do is share what worked for me and the portfolio of companies I have been building. Jorge Abalo has committed to learning the lifestyle since working with my team for over 3 years.
