But, I feel it’s also very important to understand and acknowledge the key challenges that can come with this: 1) Integrating AI effectively and what happens if we don’t. 2) Bolstering cybersecurity so data leaks don’t happen. 3) Managing the growing complexity of applications. I'm notoriously known for not celebrating my wins😅. I know it's something I need to work on, but when you've been hustling so long, you know that even the most secured business deals can fall through, so I rather protect myself from disappointment. Sara Milne Rowe recommends having a "𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭" of wins to fuel your motivation when you need it. But it saves me the energy of recovering from a loss. It also eliminates any false sense of security because, as an entrepreneur, you never really stop needing to acquire more clients. Not landing 10K deals? Click to read... Recently, I had a client who had to keep the faith. They worked in the wellness space and had been trying to support individuals for a long time. But individuals weren't prioritising investments in their own wellness... and so, my client made the switch to start selling to corporate clients. They bought a programme from me - and then spent a good few months: - Creating a lead generation process that worked. - Tweaking their messaging to be relevant to the decision makers that they wanted to book qualified sales calls with - Having calls - and practicing their structure. And whilst they made a few smaller sales along the way, they continued to want more. So they kept honing their process. Kept doing the work. Stayed resilient + focused. Joined calls to ask for advice to keep testing and improving. And they landed their first (of many!) 10K deal recently. It would have been so easy for them to say that they'd figure it out alone. Or that 'corporates just don't care about wellness initiatives' and give up. But they didn't. Because they believed in themselves and in the work that they do. And valued it enough to make the strategic sales investment necessary AND to do the work on implementing it consistently. So if you're not a qualified salesperson and you're struggling to make sales? Happy Money. What does that mean? - I gratefully receive money - I joyfully spend money - money flows through my life Unhappy Money. What does that mean? - feeling apologetic for being paid - always counting the cost of spending - holding onto money just in case I’ve realised that Happy Money isn’t about how much I have in the bank. It’s about how it moves through my life that is aligned with my beliefs. Money is a lazy measure of happiness. It’s just too easy to pin a number on happiness. But happiness is about beliefs. Understanding happiness means understanding ourselves. It takes inner work and self-knowledge. With self-knowledge comes understanding about what is enough. And enough isn’t a number. It’s a belief. These beliefs can either block the flow of money in our lives or stimulate it. Having issues in your startup is a fantastic sign. An odd statement perhaps but true. But of course it depends on the nature of that issue. Wouldn't you say? Every growing business runs into issues day in day out. With some being "run of the mill" - you know, by-products of any business, challenges that any agency growing & trading in the manner yours is will have. & others being challenges that seemingly come out of nowhere but, we all now, tend to appear as a product of negligence, ignorance or a downright refusal to address an issue/challenge your agency has. Take these three big issues for example; three that all agencies will face at some stage or another: Cash flow 💰 Now of course this is a sweeping statement (& of course there are circumstances where this might not be true) but would it be fair to say that some cash flow issues stem from poor cash flow management. & that that some poor cash flow management stems from a collection of small poor decisions (pinching from your VAT pot, being lax on payment terms with a supplier, being too lenient with a client) that end up having an incremental impact on you & your business. Hiring 🫱🏻‍🫲🏻 This is a drum I know I bang a little too much (or so LinkedIn I assume might suggest!) but we all make poor hires from time to time, it happens. & that's not the issue; the issue is failing to act upon it. The issue is letting your ego or the vanity that comes with "having a team" cause you to make poor decisions for the business that end up costing you, the business & ironically enough the consultants you're trying to retain. Non-paying clients 🤷🏻 A client is only a client if they're paying. A revolutionary piece of advice I know ("wall worthy" I like to think) but it's true. It goes hand in hand with the vanity metrics that some agencies place upon hiring; there's no point saying you work with X number of clients or engage with X numbers of PSLs if you're working with clients on poor & shoddy payment terms where prizing payment out of them is trickier than England putting in a decent performance in Euro 2024. I'm sure payment will come at some point but at what cost? So yes having issues in your startup is great news - it's a sign of growth & a sign of progress. 10 ans! 10 magical years!   🎉 Today, Lucena is officially 10 years old! 🎂    What an incredible journey it has been. Every week I get asked the question: Luke, why are you giving your software away for free? Here's the answer, Our business model has always been built on supporting you (Solo Recruiters & Start-Up Agencies) to take that first step into launching your recruitment business. The aim is to help you turn your career into a lifestyle you love rather than working a job that's just a means to an end... So if our true aim is to give you the software you need to start building your business. Then it then seems mental to lock you into a 12-month contract and charge you £150PM for the privilege. **I know that I'd be the first to politely decline an offer like that when I was initially starting out** We understand that money is tight when you're setting up your business. So, if we can give you a FREE FOREVER system that you can use to get the wheels in motion, then we have achieved our goal. However... It's no secret that we also need to make money to keep the lights on, which is why we have the paid versions of the platform too. Anyway... I'm a massive believer in paying things forward and giving value upfront... My attitude is, if you truly try to help people without an ulterior motive then eventually that good karma is going to come back around. Rather than trying to lock you into a contract that's going to hinder you in the early days, we give you everything for FREE upfront in the hope that as your business grows you'll support the platform. This then allows us to keep the Free Forever version of Giig alive for the next batch of recruitment entrepreneurs who are leaving agencies to start chasing their dreams. So they also get a free system to help them get started! If I put my business hat on for a second, I can understand the argument that giving away our platform for FREE is a shit decision for us.
