Beekeepers encourage consumers to discover the benefits of buying local - National Honey Day 2024 Beekeepers across the UK are calling on consumers to discover for themselves the incredible array of benefits that come with buying a jar of honey from their local producer, ahead of this year’s National Honey Day (21st October). The British Beekeepers’ Association (BBKA), which represents more than 30,000 members in England and Wales, has launched a ‘Bee Smart, Choose Local’ campaign, to celebrate the unique taste and regional variation of local honey, as well as the positive impact buying from your neighbourhood beekeeper can have on the environment, the regional economy and our general health and wellbeing. According to the International Trade Centre, the UK imported an average of 50,917 tonnes of honey in 2023. Some of this will have been adulterated, with added sugars, an ultrafiltration process and even the removal of pollen from the final product. Jars and bottles of ‘honey’ can be bought off the shelf for as little as 69p, but often feature a blend of products from a number of different countries. Well it’s been a while so I thought I’d send you into the weekend with some insight in to category performance up to the end of June from CGA. LAD’s category has seen marginal value gains completely driven by stout as all other categories perform behind last year. The appeal of stout is growing not just to younger consumers but also 20% of drinkers are now female. Other winners in sub categories are Draught premium lager (World lager and Premium Cider) low and no continues to grow in importance to meet the demands of the health conscious consumer. 71% of Draught beer and cider stockists now have a Draught world lager on the bar. Sprits have been negatively affected by the shifting dayparts of consumer visits to the on premise. Gin has lost the most share (-13.3%) whilst vodka reaffirms position as leader but still in decline at (-2.3%) but virtually double the value of gin at £2143m versus £1239m. Cream liqueurs are seeing a positive growth as is rum and whiskey. Sparkling wine is the only style in growth, white wine performs ahead in of the wider category whilst red wine experiences the sharpest decline. The overall category is (-2.7%) in value share versus last year. With regard to the major grape varietals, it’s Sauvignon Blanc from NZ still capturing consumer interest whilst Pinot Grigio is just up, Merlot and Shiraz are struggling.finally the Softs category is being driven by cola and syrups with mixers struggling due to the declining spirit category, overall the category is up slightly on last year at £4598m in value. Lambton & Jackson's 6th Canapé of Christmas - Gravlax Tartare Ingredients 200g Lambton & Jackson Gravlax, diced Half a red onion, finely sliced Fresh tarragon or chives, finely chopped Cornichons, chopped (to taste) 1 lemon, zested and juiced 1/2 cucumber, diced Cracker or Crostini Method 1. Mix the Tartare: In a mixing bowl, combine the diced gravlax, finely sliced red onion, chopped tarragon or chives, cornichons, diced cucumber, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Gently toss everything together until well combined. 2. Serve: Spoon the gravlax mixture onto a cracker or crostini. Garnish with more tarragon or chives if so desired. Simple to make and simply delicious to eat.

Great news, but i'd love to know your thoughts, These results show an almost 29% reduction in added sugar consumption for chikdrem and 40% in adults. However, there's lurks a bigger risk: many have switched to artificially sweetened drinks, which are linked to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular issues, gut disorders, and more. Producing more low-sugar options that are well-formulated, offering flavour without compromising health is the way forward, but big manufacturing needs to be all over this with better formulations and no get out of jail card for being hit with sugar tax by just replacing one 'bad' ingredient for another more fatal ingredient. Stevia glycosides and sucralose, are widely used as sugar substitutes in these low calorie /zero sugar drinks. While they help reduce calorie intake, they come with potential health risks: Stevia Glycosides: Digestive Issues: Can cause bloating, nausea, and diarrhea in some individuals. Blood Sugar Impact: Despite being non-caloric, studies suggest they negatively affect insulin and glucose levels. Gut Health: negatively affects gut microbiota, leading to digestive disorders. Metabolic Effects: Some studies link it to altered glucose and insulin responses, potentially increasing diabetes risk. Heat Instability: When heated,(pasteurised) it can break down into potentially harmful compounds. Our soft drinks are laced with these harmful sweeteners. do we solved one problem but created a bigger one.
