Thank you for sharing the insightful report from the Learning Technology team at the University of Northampton. Last year’s report revealed some fascinating insights, including that a significant percentage of students found AI tools helpful in improving their academic performance and efficiency. With the continued research in the latest report, we see even more interesting trends. This 2024 report highlights a significant shift in how students engage with Generative AI (GenAI). There’s a noticeable increase in GenAI use since the 2023 survey, with distinct differences in usage and views between UK and international students. Key findings show growing awareness among students about the benefits and limitations of GenAI, such as its capability to summarize content, generate ideas, and edit text, while also raising concerns about data reliability and academic integrity. 2024 report: https://lnkd.in/dZhbzNsJ 2023 report: https://lnkd.in/dZhbzNsJ As President of the UON AI Society, I’m often asked during open days about the use of AI at the university. This research provides crucial insights into student interactions with AI and helps guide how the university and student bodies can best support the ethical and effective use of these tools. The findings also assist the university in making strategic decisions about the availability of AI tools for students and staff. Currently, we have access to Microsoft Copilot Education, and with the recent launch of Chat GPT Education, we hope to see this tool soon. As many others have shared, a stimulating week in Exeter for #THEDigitalUK. A great programme and excellent discussions with some key themes: ⭐️ Digital transformation remaining a strategic priority with a sub-theme of how to deliver with the constrained resources arising from the funding crisis facing the UK HE sector. ⭐️ Efforts to grow online learning increasing across a wider range of institutions, promising potential returns but requiring investment to get off the ground. ⭐️ GenAI as a potential solution to the challenge of achieving more with less. But with many many caveats… ⭐️ User-centered design, digital upskilling and effective stakeholder engagement as key enablers for the work we want to get done. ⭐️ The ongoing importance of maintaining commitments to inclusivity and sustainability despite pressures from shorter-term concerns. Now just to try and get home through landslips on the cross country train line!
